Title: Race weekend #2, BHF report
Post by: tstruyk on May 31, 2005, 09:05:12 AM
Well where to start.....

Was it just me or was there some fast ass Middleweight amateurs out there this weekend??  WOW... Top guys where in the 1.14-1.16 range.... again WOW!!!

The weekend went ok for me.  1st practice session was... interesting.  Harvey and Snell both warned me about the complexities of the circuit... they where right on!  VERY technical track!  I ran the first session on the ragged out PR's I had from RA... not being NEARLY up to speed they did a fine job.  Between sessions I picked up a fresh set and missed the 2nd practice because of it.  Lap times where at best in the 1:23 range... still learning the track.

1st race MWGP.  I am gridded up front due to early registration and got a decent launch.  I should have learned my lesson at RA about scrubbing in new rubber in 1 lap before a race.... it CAN be done I just havent figured it out yet!  LOL  ANYway... get a good launch and am running about 5th through T-1 when I loose the front end...hooks up...loose it... hooks up... looose it hooks up.... and away I go.  needless to say the drive outta 1 was less than impressive.  Settled in about 14th and tried to find a rythem... apparently I wasnt looking in the right places.  Uneventful for the remaining 7 laps... passed a few, got passed by a few more... ended 16th of 28. best lap was a 1:20:XX average 1.22.9

Back in the pits Randy brings it to my attention that I am apexing WAY early going into 4 and losing my drive completely (no wonder I am getting smoked on the exit there).  Make mental note and get ready for the GT. (30 min endurance).

Got a very average launch for this one and went through T1 roughly 6th, kept telling my self to find a rythem cause its a LONG race.  Long story short about 6 laps in I am thinking "where the heck is that 1/2 way flag!!!!!" (never did see it, doesnt mean it wasnt there )  Thats about the time I blow T-1... WAY late on the breaks... big stoppie... keep it on the track... lose 3 spots.  Roughly lap 11 I kind of zone out and settle in a bit, no noticing fatigue, riding much more relaxed, the lap times show it!  HMMMM....there must be something to this relazed+smooth = fast thing haha.  Chassis is unssettled, wheel spin at exit... something is not quite right.  Finish at 14th with a best time of 1:19:XX... avg 1:22:05, gettin faster!

Back at the track Sunday morning and it looks like rain!!  I ran the bike over to Ryan at Lithium to look at my set up, after about 8 clicks and 10 mins I am excited to get back on the track!  My right side rear is chunking BAD and I am concerned as to how long it will last.  I miss the 1st session working with Ryan... but make the second.  The goal is to scrub off the chunks and feel out the changes.  WOW... what a difference!!!  I am cruising and it feels a WORLD different!  4th practice lap I wick it up a notch and am really feeling planted!!  (A little history... running in the low 20's I would, coming out of 6, be around .58-.59 on the lap timer) I breaking later, turning in faster and back on the gas sooner all over the track... I come outta 6 and glance at the timer and catch the tail end of .55!!!   Thats it, I am good.  Throw up a hand and cruise through 7, save the tire!

So I am ALL pumped up about the next race! looking forward to moving up in the ranks and down on the times.... RAIN!

To wind this up, ditched the HWSS race (had powers mounted hoping for lite sprinkles... damn)  Threw on the rains for the mwss race... never ran in the rain before... its a HOOT!!!  Lost the lead group be the 2nd lap, ended up 9th.  I'll take it!  No mechanicals, no cosmetic reconstruction necessary!  All in all a good fun weekend!

 Next up HPT!

Congrats on the good weekend and the fact that you HAD FUN!  Sometimes we get so wrapped up in racing that we forget that it's fun...

In GTO am #266 did consistant '14's with a 13.8 thrown in for good measure.  I believe that would have put him top 5 in the expert GTO race.

He's fast, no doubt about it.  So's that JT Stone, he can do '13's also.

I would have been excited to get in the 17's... I think I had the set up day 2 but never had the chance to prove it!  Oh well... had a blast!
