I have an 04 GSXR 600 and i have no idea what gearing should be for Blackhawk and Road America.
Is there different gear sizes i can play around with or is it pretty much set gearing for the track you are going to? ???
Don! Stock gearing is usually a good place to start for Road America. Depending on the track conditions and weather (mostly wind!) you should be fine within one tooth of stock. If there's a stiff head wind coming up the front straigh, you'll probably have to add a tooth or two to the rear or possibly take one away on the front. And with a stiff wind from the North you'll probably be fine with stock gearing...maybe take away a tooth on the rear if you're getting a great drive out of 14. The other two straights are not affected by the wind quite as much. Although if there's a strong wind from the south you'll notice that you're coming into turn 5 faster than usual. The kettle bottoms are not affected by the winds very much, especially with the new "bend". Also, your bike's power will make a difference. Stronger bikes can usually get to red line in 6th, while weaker bikes might have trouble. I've raced both kinds of bikes at RA. The stronger ones are much more fun! Hope this helps. See you in a coupld days!
