Title: Knee down, then what?
Post by: Fat_Nate on April 08, 2005, 11:59:40 AM
Hey all,

When I get my knee on the ground, I feel very comfortable, but new questions arise:

Once the knee is down, can I keep leaning over?

Can I do more than skim the track?  Can I really drag the puck hard?

If I put a lot of weight on the puck, will I unweight the bike and cause loss of traction?  Or is that kind of "weight transfer" good for traction?  Why?

Thanks,
Nate

My PERSONAL thoughts/experiences on the subject...

I personally just use the knee as a feeler for my lean angle.  I don't drag my knee much.  I'll touch it down and bring it up a bit.

You can lean until you run out of rubber...  I have and do lean over further once dragging.  The carousel at Road A is a perfect example.  I'll go in dragging, but have to lean over a touch more to get to the right turn radius early in the corner.

You can drag the puck SUPER hard, but there's no real benefit to it unless you're trying to save a crash.  You can't really transfer weight to your knee because in doing so, you'll lift the bike up to the point where you either won't be dragging, or will fall off the bike.

welcome to the first step.  now youll be grinding in that knee every chance you get.  Untill you realize that they dont last that long doing that and they are 40 bucks a set.

I went through a set on sliders in one weekend.

Its a gage to tell you how far you are leaned over.  More skill, better set-up, better suspension, of-camber/on camber,  how much you lean off, all effect how much you can lean over.

If you like to drag knees, I can't recommend strongly enough the ARI sliders from www.sliderwoman.com (tell Audrey I sent you over).

I used to drag as much and as hard as I could, and have chewed off sliders in a single day.  These ARIs will last me several seasons...

Anto Connor was REAL abusive on his sliders, and was amazed at the wear on these as well...
