Looking for racing on the schedule and seeing almost none..... :'( I thought it would be a good opportunity for all of us to provide some feedback to Speed TV as to what we really want to see.
Just click on the link....

Dawn
I suggested that Speed should come to BHF for the Wegman auction weekend. Now that would be cool!
Yes it would be.... :D
I SUGGESTED THEY SHOULD MAKE THERE OWN STATION JUST FOR NASCAR.
They have that now. It's called Speed TV, but since they don't have NASCAR all the time, they throw people like us a bone with a little motorcycle racing. We need to tell them (in a positive manner) that we're hungry for more!
;)
Money talks.
Most of what Speed Channel (its proper name) broadcasts consists of 'time buys' - the acceptance of money (a LOT of it) to broadcast what is not only paid for, but approved by the network.
Neckar can and does write big checks to inflict their sickness on as many sheeple as possible.
...
Maybe 'sheeple' wasn't the best choice of words for the roundyround audience ... gimme a minute and I'll come up with one that doesn't hit so close to home ...
Anyway ...
The other side of getting air time is approval. Not only must the submitted program conform to the network's production guidelines (a 3" thick three ring binder that covers every detail of production from content to technical), but it must be accepted and approved by the network. This means that they must simply want to air it.
They 'want' to air shows that people will watch, that don't duplicate other programming that they already may have an exclusive deal on and - mostly - that they can sell advertising for on top of the fee paid to broadcast the show to begin with.
Another big part of approval is that the show must be produced by an authorized packager / producer - an entity that Speed Channel has signed off on as having the equipment, personell / personnel (pick the correct spelling) experience and ability to conform to their production guidelines. This represents another check.
Bottom line - TV costs around $750 to $2,000 per finished broadcast minute at this level. Other networks are more or less expensive depending upon several factors.
Now ... I told you that story to tell you this one ...
The Wegman weekend has been and continues to be discussed long before its mention here.
HW
Thanks Grif for the additional insight.
Help me figure out what you mean about the Wegman comment...
QuoteThe Wegman weekend has been and continues to be discussed long before its mention here
Dawn :)
Given the $$ committment, maybe contacting Greg White at 2 Wheel Tuesday for a segment would be more doable? (Maybe youse guys already did that.)
Perhaps some thought should be given to that idea before acting on it ...
This would be most successfully handled by the office - not the racers.
The objective is for our group and our product to be viewed as desirable - not desperate.
Though it's possible that the Wegman weekend as it stands would be newsworthy, and though contacting the network yourself may result in coverage, and though I may be wrong; I'm inclined to doubt that such action would result in coverage. Actions such as this have had the result of placing a bad taste in the mouth of a network in regard to working with a group.
Clear Channel's involvement with the media is quite extensive. There are great measures in place to achieve the media results that CC desires. Though I could be wrong, I'm inclined to doubt that the office would favor its customers (riders) creating a media situation at a CC event rather than having that activity created by CC itself.
The chess move that is in play is to make the weekend unquestionably THE thing to cover. This would require elements that are currently being discussed and which are known to only a small number of people.
This is the time for faith and patience - not gossip or speculation - subscribe to the former.
Though I could be wrong, and though the plan could possibly fail; I humbly suggest that racers contacting a network for coverage of themselves might not be the best approach.
Again - I can't stop anyone from doing anything, but I invite you to consider my points in that there is a more conventional method of achieving the result you desire and that they are in fact currently in process.
And for once in my life, I had no intention of offending anyone with my comments ... so ... if you feel slighted or belittled, I apologize for not finding the best words.

What? We can't storm the citadel? Rats, you just can't have any fun anymore. :)
It's nice to hear that people are considering ways to get more publicity to the Wegman Fund.

Well, yah! So did you donate $500 for the flyer you took into the T4b airfence at BHF last summer?? I figure that should be an automatic for everyone - you find you or your bike in the airfence, you're automatically down for a $500 donation to Weggie - cuz that's just a TINY piece of what you woulda spent if that 'fence hadn't a been there.
Howz that for a promotion??
PS - why are you at home tonight, Dylanfan? It's Saturday, for gosh sakes - get yer butt out there wit da wiff and have some fun ;D
Hey T,
We just got back. Mexican dinner, trip to Autozone and back home within an hour or so. At our age we go quick and cheap. :)
I gratefully paid pennance to Wegman last summer! There is no greater relief than the "thwack" of air fence when you hit.
Well...maybe that negative pregnancy test long ago... 8)

That was you that ended up sitting in the airfence like an EZ Chair in T4? Damn I was busy in that corner. 2 bikes over the tirewall and you.:D

Our Mr. Cook....
One would think that he is a mild mannered gentleman.... Not one to take chances, or walk on the wild side....
But more and more, he share glimpses of his past so that one cannot help but wonder....
What other surprises will he have in store for us? ;D
Hey Tshort,
Not a good idea, otherwise I wouldn't have money to race ;)
Stumpy

Well the least you could do is make up some "Stumpy was here" stickers for the dang things then. Least make 'em a bit more interesting for all those who follow in your inestimable footsteps (er, treads? darkies? flight paths?) .
;D

I can probably shed some light here.... :-X
It will be sooo perdy! Peace and love w/a little bit of bling. ;D
I'm feeling bold. I need a nice floral pattern for the bike. Hey Stumpy! Can you do a Hawaiian flowers motif with a bit o' flames? Paul says I'm getting in touch with my feminine side! ;D
Surprises? We've all got a few, I'm sure. ;)
I've got some hot pink leather we can add to the ol' leathers. Flower power rules! ;) ;D
