Title: 03/05 03/06 Firebird East
Post by: thegoshow2002 on March 07, 2005, 10:07:05 AM
Wow, what a great weekend !!!!!!

Although Saturday and Sunday morning was both cold and damp, the clouds cleared by lunch allowing for a great day of racing.

I had a great weekend. Finishing 2nd in Unlimited Superbike and 1st in Unlimited Supersport was a dream come true.
Kane Laskey, Nicky Moore, and Mark Ladesma put on an amazing show that in my opinion beat any AMA race for shear excitement.

Thanks to everyone that helped me this weekend, in particular, Tony Consolato, Dale Wheelan, Dale Keifer, Joe Jackson, and Brian and Nikki.  You guys were great !!

Also thanks to all the C.C.S staff and corner workers.

On a side note, does anybody know the condition of the guy that got air lifted to the hospital ???

I heard he was ok but injured his shoulder. That's 2nd hand though, so don't take my word for it.

In my experience (unfortunately), they airlift you any time you've been unconsious for any decent amount of time and/or head injuries. He definitely wasn't moving for a long time, so I assume he was out.

Was definitely an interesting weekend.

From another board.  Guess he was ok.

QuoteNick report:

Fucker didn't let me sleep all night he acted like he crashed his motorcycle or something...he he .... That was the joke all night......

Thanks to all of his friends who took care of his stuff and packed it up at the track and delivered it home for him....

No broken bones or head injuries (ok it's Nick) but he was mental before the crash. He just has a lot of torn muscles and he is swollen and he is really miserable. I took him home last night and stayed just to make sure he was ok and to make sure nothing weird happened in the middle of the night.....Especially since he did have a really big bump on his head.....

When I left this morning he was hurting but I think he will make it....

Definately an interesting weekend.  Probably my most stressful race weekend so far.  Things started Saturday when I had a fork seal go bad.  I worked through the rain Saturday evening to get that replaced.  Got to the track Sunday morning and locked my keys in the truck before I even unlocked my trailer.  Wait an hour for my wife to get the kids up and dressed and bring spare keys (She was happy!).  Go out and crash on the first turn of my first lap of practice.  New cold tires on a wet track didn't like the first time I twisted the gas.  I was lucky enough to have been allowed right back on the track by tech.  No major damage, just some scrapes and a broken brake lever and bent rearset.

I managed wins in Lightweight Supersport and Thunderbike so all was not lost.  Those are my first race wins so I guess I earned them for just surviving the weekend.

Great weekend!

I know the CCS staff had some difficulites in which to work through, but in my opinion, it went very well for the first event of the season. Randy, Heidi, Linda, Corey, and others, you're the best! :)

As for Nick Adams, I felt sick for him laying out on the tarmac. He's a great guy, good racer dude, and I wish him the best on his recovery! I heard there were no broken bones, just alot of major soreness. Hope to see you out there for LVMS... ;)

GREAT START OFF FOR SOUTHWEST ;D

We all had a really good time at the Banquet; Good job to Randy and crew!

Racing action and competition was the best; as for scoring :o, well that's a new thread ???

Nick is feeling better today.  He went to dinner with us after the races were over.  He was wearing some sort of dog collar or something!   ;D

I developed some old guy slow disease, and generally sucked all day Sunday.  I did manage a first place in LWSS by coming in last place!   ???

I was doing 1:03's on Friday, but was doing 1:06's on Sunday!  Go figure!  :-/

Congrats to Elaine for kicking my butt in LWSB and Thunderbike.  JEEEZ!!! :-[

I did manage to beat Steven in LWSB, though  Ha Ha!!   ;D

Better to be slow and take a first then to be fast and stupid by pulling off on the white flag lap.  Course it was the second white flag we got.   :o

Yeah, I always wait for the 3rd white flag before I pull off the track!!   :o

So how do you finish the race? ??? On the second lap of the first white flag ??? Or, on the first lap of the second white flag ??? ???
Can someone just even it out by throwing a couple checkers in behind them, that would solve world hunger ;)

You know I feel sorry for the flagger, he had about 4 things going on at the same time, and it did not help when the top 3 guys pulled off.  Oh well I learned a lesson during this one.  Keep it pinned until you see a "vigorously" waving checkered flag.

Also those poor scorers were going through hell this weekend.  I know I was mucho excited after I pulled off and saw people continuing to race, my wife had to calm me down several times.

Yep, I was in the ULWSB race behind the LW SS guys and wasn't pulling off until someone showed me a checkered, a red, or a black flag.  Thank goodness I stayed out there or else Zac would have won the race!

At least on the ultra-lightweight, I'm going slow enough down the straights to clearly see the difference between a white and checkered flag.

Hey Fukiage!  I got a couple cool pics of you in the thunderbike race, check them out here: http://foghorn.homeunix.net:8081/~photos/gallery/CCS_FBE_3_6_05?page=4

If you want one let me know and I can send you the full size image.

Aron (new kid, #119) was quite confused too. ULWSB was his first CCS race, and the first time riding in cool, damp, conditions. His faceshield completly fogged over during the first lap and he could only see out of the corners of his shield. When he saw a flag thrown, he could not tell exactly which type it was. He saw racers pulling off of the track and thought the race was over, but then a couple went by quickly, so he continued. When he saw a flag on the next lap, he was sure that was the end, and slowed down, but then saw others were continuing so he picked up again. The next lap he was able to tell that it was another white flag, but he had dropped too far back to catch up to the other amateurs.

He did learn a good lesson though, don't stop racing until you are SURE that you see the checkers.

I've been racing with AHRMA for the past several years and they refer to the white flag as a "courtesy" flag, we are told to NEVER count on the white flag being thrown. The only non-warning flags that count are green and checkers. That helps a lot with multi-class fields, such as when they run a production and formula class at the same time.

Mark

That is basically what they said about the result, that the white flag is a "courtesy flag".  I saw the white flag the first time, and then when I expected to see a checkered flag when I crossed the finish line, there was the white flag again.  I thought "could I have mistaken the flag the lap before?". ??? ???

I went one more lap, and saw the white flag for a 3rd time!!  :o

The only people ahead of me were lappers, so I figured they made a mistake with the checkered flag, so I made the decision to pull in.  :-/

I found out later that EVERYONE in LWSS pulled off the lap before, so that meant that I won the race, even though I was in last place in the Expert class!!  Fortunately for me, I got to learn a lesson, and benefited from others mistakes! ;D

I believe it... with it as wet as it was, when I saw you going out on the motard, I said, now that would be fun... everyone else was skating on ice.

First I would like to apologize for the events that led to much chaos this weekend at Firebird.  It was pretty much out of my control (thankfully), but still I take a lot of personal ownership in CCS SW when we do well and take it very hard when we do poorly.

Next, I would like to thank all the racers this weekend for A- showing up and racing, B- for not complaining too much (and the amount we saw was definitley warranted) C- realizing that it will get better.

This weekends racing was some of the best I have seen in a long time!!  As we announced all weekend, things in the SW are giong to get better (hopefully you saw some of this already) and we may stumble along the way.  I only hope we train operators in the use of a new system before we turn them loose with it.  NEXT time- we will have this one solved and most likely will find a new wrinkle to ruffle our feathers- but such is life in racing right?  ::)  Thanks again to all the racers for the great weekend, I am glad Nick is okay and expect to see a report in RRW when I get results.  See you in Vegas!!  Also- digital- contact about help with the website- OUT- Cory

QuoteHello Everybody This Is Nick Adams #81

Nick, this is #525, your nemis in the MW classes. I am so glad to hear you are OK. You were really laid out there for a long time! I did not see the crash, but by the looks of it, it was a doozy... :o

Hopefully you will be recovered in time for Las Vegas. If I can be of any service in anyway, let me know. ;)
