Title: Yes another gearing question !  R1
Post by: R1abuser on March 04, 2005, 05:28:28 AM
I am going to stock up with my order for sprockets and want to know what you guys reccomend I keep handy in the tool box.

Stock gearing on my R1 is a 16/43

I figure maybe a 15 tooth front, but am unsure on the rear ?

Superdave, any suggestions ?  Thanks in advance.

Well it depends on which tracks your going to. As long as you are not going to BIR 16-44-45 is all you need. As you know the torque of the R1 is pretty forgiving. Should you drop a tooth down in the front your gearing will change for the rear to somthing like 15-42-43-44. IMHO leave the front alone you don'rt need to drop that far down with as much torque as you have. Besides changing out the rear is easier and you won't risk grinding on the swingarm when you drop the front.
If you go to BIR 16-43 or 44 for the main straight. Ride through the rest of the field.
Oh and one other thing you made need 2 chains a short and a long . 16/43 short and 16/44-45 long chain to try and keep the wheel base the same and the swingarm angle the same as a shorter or longer wheelbase will affect the swingarm angle.

Of course I know we will be going to mam at least 3 times this year. Has CCS scheduled anything at HPT yet? Are you going to make the big trip up to BIR and hit at least one race there on the big bike?

Well when BIR closes down your going to reget it, getting that R1 spooled up and keeling it over into turn one is a huge rush and then hitting turn two at the same speed without banking..........?
We have 5 weekends up here at BIR you amd chuck should really look into coming up.

It would be awesome if guys came up for one round just to experience the track you can't miss it.
Keep me posted if you and Chuck come up.
