If you had the choice of going with something like a 2005 zx6r for around $9k out the door or maybe like an 03 R1 for around the same price...what would you do? For the street...not racing...i'm perfectly happy with the F3 on the track ;)
man.....I know no one is gonna agree, but I say once you've ridden a literbike you can never go back to a 6.
I bought a 929 last May, and rode my 600 twice since. 600 just collects dust.
On the street, there is no replacement for displacement.
I tell you that 03-04 R1 is really a beautiful bike...i bet insurance is crazy though...of course...i guess the zx6r is probably just as bad if not worse... ::) I don't know if i could handle the liter bike...
I've owned
My first bike: 97 TUNA (need i say more?)
Second bike: 00 F4...lot of fun
Race bikey: 95 F3
I still have the salvage frame and some spares from the F4..including the wheels...i've been debating building the thing from spares on ebay :D
Or the flip side...
Nothing does much for me on the street...
Other than a dual purpose bike. It won't go fast, but will generally out corner a sportbike because of unlimited ground clearance. Used to have a Yamaha XT500...aluminum tank, big loud pipe...sold it to a guy that worked at Buell.
I want a motard bike for street riding.
Really comes down to the riding you do. On the street the 600 is very good these days but if you have a passenger then you need the extra torque from more ccs. I like the 750 for that reason great all around bike plenty of torque for 2 up riding but the lighter handling than a liter.
Hey superdave...what's your race against childhood cancer all about?
As i am typing this i am getting ready to mail a letter to the gesundheit institoot (patch adams place)to see if it would be possible for me to drop in and show the kiddies all my racing stuff...keepin the falangies crossed :D
GO FOR THE LITER BIKE ;D ;D ;D

Oooo, that's cool...
I set up my program to sell shirts that I use to give funds to Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer. Some of my purse money goes to them too. My RS125 ride is paid for in AHRMA. So, what ever I get in that race...right to the cancer program.

Should have a new website up soon for the cancer program specifically.
If you look on eBay, you can find a new Suz 750 (05) for b/t 8200-8800, something to consider also.
I think the 750 idea is a good one, but if I were to go buy another streetbike, I would probably get a 1000.
FWIW, current street bike is an '03 GSXR1k. On the street it's a total waste of hp. It's only a matter of time before I get pinched for speeding at an irresponsible rate that I'd rip on someone else for. It's impossible to consistently ride it at the posted speed limit, unless you're the type of guy that can sit in front of a pile of chocolate chip cookies and not touch them...or other analogies I can think of. ;)
Since it's unscathed I won't take it on the track...meaning it's a total waste of a bike.
No, Edgar, you can't have it.
When I sell it I'll either abandon street riding (not likely) or get a 600. Maybe a KTM moto thing or maybe a sport tourer if I decide to go back to taking long trips like I did in my younger days.
Paul says: Get an SV for the street, spend the extra $$$'s you save on the suspension and you would have a lot more fun.
:)
This from a guy who had a GSX1300R for the street. :-/ <--- Yes, going through whoops at x-mph you will have the bike airborne ---> :o ;D
I have an R1 for the street and have been thinking about getting something much slower for a long time. If you have a liter bike you are definately going to twist the throttle on it (even if you can look at a plte of cookies and not eat them!! lol ). I like the supermoto thing, although I'd be just as bad on that as I am on my R1. Just my .02

I know quite a few guys who went from a 1000 to 600. Kinda blows that "Never go back" motto. ;D
My next streetbike will more than likely be 1480cc. ;D ;D
I prefer a 600 on the street.
Still MORE than fast enough to get you into trouble. But not so stupid fast that you can't pound on it until 4th gear. I like the fact that when I'm feelin' saucy I can wind out 3 gears without fighting to keep the tire on the ground.

LOL! Awesome analogy...
That's me...

I can't keep the front wheel down in 6th...
of course my top-speed is like 80mph ;D
I'mma call you fools this week... 8) once I pay my cell phone bill
My streetbike is a liter bike, but it only makes around 85 hp. ;D
It's a Moto Guzzi Centauro, has the 4 valve, OHC engine so it's much revier than the pushrod Guzzis. Tons of torque, plenty fast for the street, handles plenty well for the street (I've even done a track day on it), comfortable, low maintance shaft drive, and it doesn't look like it is fast or would pull a wheelie, so cops ignore it.
I wouldn't want to ride a 600 on the street. Too much shifting. I don't want to have to downshift three gears to make a pass.
