Title: Red Line oil
Post by: dave_anderson on February 17, 2005, 05:35:17 AM
I have had several people tell me that Red Line synthetic  oil is the best on the market. The bike will rev quicker, runs cooler, and more horse power. It might help a 600, but will it help a SS legal SV.    ???

Mobile 1 Syn is also good from what I hear.  I guess it just preference.  I heard of Red Line being great for cars, but never really heard much about it in the bike bike scene.

All seem like snake oil...

Depends upon what the weight of the oil is and how much drag it produces in the engine.

There are oils that will increase HP and acceleration, but you wouldn't want to run them all the time.

Red Line is good stuff.  Used it before.  Used Mobil.  Used Silkolene, Shell Rotella, Kendall, John Deere...

Addtionally, I had my own oil made for just such an occasion.  Worked well, but we really would only use it for a race or two, not the whole weekend.  Wasn't synthetic.  Was something like an SAE10 oil.

I do not know what the best is, but I run Motul.  They make a nice semi-synthetic and full synthetic.

Best bang for the buck is Shell Rotella, Cheep, does the job, Change it all the time anyway.
