Title: DAYTONA Bike Week 2005 Role Call
Post by: GSXR RACER MIKE on January 30, 2005, 06:20:15 PM
With Bike Week a little over a month away, I figured it was about time to start a role call.

I have only been to the ROC in the fall so this will be my 1st time to Bike Week. I'm going to be at Daytona from March 2 thru March 12 and will be racing at the CCS event. After the event I plan on staying for Bike Week so I'm borrowing my brothers 900RR to ride on the street. I plan on ending the trip by spectating the 200 then returning to Illinois.

So how many of you are going to Daytona and in what capacity? Are you racing CCS and/or AMA, spectating, or just going for Bike Week in general?

Decided to opt out of the Daytona 200 this year.

Will be racing in AHRMA though.  Might have a special vintage Super Dave's Race Against Childhood Cancer shirt for the event.

I'll be racing the http;//www.teamhansenhonda.com CB/CR450 again in 500 Premier.

I'll be racing a Kawasaki H1 again for Jeff Moyer in Formula Vintage,

And I'll be racing a Honda RS125 for http://www.racingunlimited.com

That race has a purse, and I'll be donating that money to my childhood cancer program.

Was going to stay for the AMA activities, but I couldn't get my salary requirements met.

I'm lucky I only live 20 mins from the track(not as lucky as Quicktoy,he can walk to the track) so i'll be there for everything,if you haven't been there you need to go at least once during bike week.Super Dave,I just saw Pat Mooney and he's looking foward to checking out the new infield,he said to tell you HI...good luck at Daytona.

I'm not sure that should be considered 'lucky'.  That area is pretty ghetto. :D

I will be there spectating.  I will also be hanging with the Safety First crew and cheering them on.

Hey Hooter, we are bringing some dirtbikes and stopping in Georgia to do some riding as well.  Are there any good places to trail ride near Daytona?  We tried out Ocala last year, but did not like it.

QuoteDUDE how u gonna qualify for the 200, u know its I think its only 106%. u didnt even qualify for VIR.

do you make this stuff up?  Its still 112%.

Last I checked, I made the grid at VIR, and considering I had surgery just a week before, that ain't bad.

u didnt make the cut, remember. do u remember asking zemke to take his slower time. and then asking ama to get in. and the gave u a provisonal start.

Per AMA rule book page 47 #3
3. For timed qualifying events, a rider's best lap time must be within
112% (110% in Superbike) of the fastest qualifying rider's best lap
time in order to pre-qualify for one of the available grid positions
in the final.
a. At the discretion of the Race Manager, the qualifying percentage
regulation may be waived due to special circumstances
such as track delays resulting in an extreme reduction in qualifying
time, significant changes in weather conditions, etc.

In case anyone was wondering?

looks like somewhere around 1:55 for 600 and 1:49 for SBK off of preliminary testing.

Kent

FX didn't get any warmup or practice that morning.  SBK did.

Barrick agreed that it was an unfair advantage

I'll be racing CCS... maybe the 200 if I can finagle the $$$$.  Anyone who is short on space in the pit department, I have some... I lost the only pit crew member I had today, so I'll be at the track alone.  Not the greatest scenario for winning races....  I'd prefer someone who doesn't race in the same races, maybe an SV rider or 2-stroker... expert of course.  I have a pretty decent setup, generator, compressor, roll away tools, 10X20 tent, motormat, everything you'd need (i.e. and could keep at home).  Anyone interested PM me, maybe we'll figure something out  ???
P.S. - I'm in Jacksonville, FL

Hey, tell Pat I said "Hi!" too!

He's fast!  And his bike is awesome.  We're really out gunned by that bike.  But, for the cost of his machine, you could probably build a CBR600RR like Miguel's.

Team SKS will be celebrating the fact that we will be out of the cold starting March 2 with some good 'ol fashioned partyin' down there!  Then we'll hit the Team Hammer day, CCS races and Formula USA sportbike.  We can't wait to see everyone down there!  Oh, and hopefully the hang over I still have from the awards banquet will be gone ;D

Isn't there a lower percentage at Daytona?  If you're out there going "slow," Mladin and Yates will be VERY ANGRY.

I'll be there with my dad for the AMA races - we'll keep an eye out for you.  From the stands, I mean!

A little touch and go last spring when the clowns doing the renovations at the Sailmaker were diming him. Too bad the hurricanes didn't just wash them all out to sea. My apartment was unfit for habitation last October, so Homestead was a blessing. The construction is done, they're open for business and things are smooth between the neighbors, last I heard.
Wally didn't have any money, so the Daytona Police couldn't figure out who to give the $500 ticket to. He doesn't have to tell his P.O. anything, he lives in Jacksonville, so he wouldn't be going out-of-state. He must be having a field day right now with the Super Bowl!

Worse comes to worse, we'll put him behind the stockade fence and do the photo shoots there. Prolly get better pics that way. Here he is with Miss Gator Bait 2003.

If I don't rent a garage, do I just stake out some kind of spot in the paddock parking lot?
