Has anyone tried the Avon rain tires or heard anything about them, good or bad?
Raced on Avons years ago.
They used to have a decent program in England, but I haven't heard them doing a whole lot lately.
If cost is the issue, how much does it cost you to feel better on the track. Race tire vendors aren't into gouging racers. They supply a service, and, hopefully, in your area, some knowledge.
They have a DOT legal rain (most aren't). Quite a few supermoto guys use them for racing and as street tires. I don't think they are nearly as soft as a real race rain.

FYI CCS allows any rain tire to be used in rain conditions even in SS. The race director will make a call announcing it as a wet event and once that call is made any tire can used for the remainder of the day. So you do not need a DOT legal tire when it is raining.
