Title: We're all going to die sometime...
Post by: EX#996 on January 14, 2005, 01:10:35 PM
... we just don't know when.  As I came across another fatal accident today on my way to work, I wondered if the families involved had any regrets, anything left unsaid.....

As a young child, I would watch people in their time of morning, wishing that they told someone that they loved them, or suffering from deep regret because they never cleared a disagreement that was many years old.  I learned from that experience.

When Paul leaves for work, its always sent with a kiss and "I love you."  Today, even though Renee and I had a knock down, dragged out argument this morning, before she got on the bus I heard, "Bye mom, love you!"  I promptly responded, "Bye, love you too!"

I guess what I'm trying to say is that, have your life in order with those you love and God too.

I love you, Dawn, and your little dog, too!

Tell Paul I'm sorry for the years of argument, and that I hope he forgives me....NOT!
 ;D

Let me guess.  You & Renee?  About boys, maybe?  Tell her Uncle K3 says no boys until she's 29!

I know some of you think that I'm just being a sap...

... but those of you who are parents will know where I'm coming from.

From the Appleton Post Crescent

QuoteTOWN OF CENTER — A 13-year-old Black Creek girl riding to school in a car driven by her 17-year-old brother was killed Friday morning in a two-vehicle accident.

Authorities said Stephanie Wittman, N4321 State 47, an eighth-grader at Freedom Middle School, died when the car driven by Brent Wittman was struck broadside by a truck at the intersection of State 47 and Outagamie County S about 7:40 a.m.

Sheriff's department Sgt. Jim Duchow said the victims' mother, Shelley Wittman, was following her son's car and saw the accident, which occurred less than a mile from the Wittman home.

Duchow said Brent Wittman, who was driving south on 47, attempted to turn left on S toward Freedom when he drove into the path of a tanker truck going north and driven by 39-year-old Dale R. Kuettel of Hortonville.

The truck, which was not carrying a load, hit the passenger side of the car.

Coroner Ruth Wulgaert said Stephanie Wittman was pronounced dead at the scene from head and chest injuries

Brent Wittman, a junior at Freedom High School, was flown by ThedaStar helicopter to Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah. He was transferred to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin-Fox Valley where he was listed in fair condition

Kuettel was not injured.

Duchow said while the accident remains under investigation, there will be no charges against Kuettel.

Freedom Supt. Lois Cuff said counselors will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today for students and parents at Freedom Middle School.

Parents and students can use the main entrance or field house entrance to the school, located at the corner of State 55 and County E.

Cuff said Stephanie Wittman played on the school's eighth-grade girls' basketball team and was a good student.

"She had a lot of friends," Cuff said.

No Dawn, you aren't a sap, you're a mom. As a mom, you realize how different it will be for those families who lose that little light in their lives. That's not sappy, it's compassion.

I know I was lucky to be able to tell my son I loved him the day before he died.  He called me from Road Atlanta all pumped because they (Team Vesrah)had won the WERA endurance national championship.   ;D I congratulated him, told him how sad I was that I couldn't be there with him and told him I loved him before I hung up that phone.

The call I got from Road Atlanta the next day was that he was gone.

Hold all your loved ones close and tell them every day you love them. It may be the last chance you get.

Sorry to hear you came across that accident Dawn. I've had that misfortune several times and it makes you feel so empty knowing what that family will go through.

Already have.  I've been her friend for five years, helped her whenever I could, used and promoted her business at every opportunity, watched out for her daughter like she was my sister,  driven 200 miles one way in bad weather to attend parties she's thrown, and given her that bit of extra room on the racetrack whenever she's needed it.
How about you, Dan?  Aside from flapping your gums, being politically incorect with a woman you've never met, and generally treating her with unwarranted familiarity, what would be your relationship with Alexa?

It's all good, Chris. I love you too. Dan can have his fun, I'll slap him down if he pisses me off.

Dan, K3 is big ol' bear of a man. He treats all of us friends as if it's his personal reponsibilty to protect us. Make a friend of K3 and you have an honest, loyal friend for life.

We all joke around alot, and it's mostly in good fun. It's hard to cross a line here, cuz someone will put you right if they think you've gone too far. I'm all cool, love everyone here, and I'm as sappy as Dawn when it comes right down to it. Zen-like patience and all that mumbo-jumbo. :-* ;) :D

That's pretty patronizing and condescending.

If we haven't had kids we don't know real love and aren't affected by tradegy?  Let me guess...Until I give birth, I couldn't possibly understand.

Sorry, but that line is insulting.

Sorry, Heather.
I think I get where Dawn is coming from.  When I read that as a married, childless guy, I thought about all the stupid stuff I did as a teenager, and how wrong it all could have gone, but for the grace of God.  As a mother, Dawn immediately puts not herself, but her daughter in that smashed up car.  It IS a different thing, and a different emotion for us childless folk.
No offense, Heather.  I love you and Dawn both.... :-*

Heather, we all know tragedy in our own way. But I'll tell you what, you have not and can never know the tragedy of losing a child unless it's happeneed to you.

The only reason Dawn may have expressed it the way she did is because it was a 13 year old girl that died and she has a young child. I have a 13 year old daughter of my own.

I'm sure she meant nothing towards anyone without kids but she owes no apology for what she said.

Thanks for the feedback, guys.

Losing a child and having a child are two different things.  Those who don't have children can understand the story just as well as others--trust me.  I just really hate when I hear that line.

And I don't think anyone thought Dawn was being a sap!   :)

And, if I don't quit, I'm going to start being a sap!

Now let's go racing so we can have a big group hug!!!

I pondered another lengthy  letter here but decided we're all on the same page here and this does not need to get more depressing. So I'm just going to say what we all know we should do but fail to do so often. Tell your loved ones you love them every day and I'm looking forward to this group hug. Can we do it naked? :o ;D
