Ok...I know a couple of you were looking for feedback on the MotoGP suits.
The suit is made of lightweight kangaroo, probably the lightest suit I've seen.
Perfed on the shoulders, chest and thigh area, they should keep you really cool on those hot days, but if the temps dip, you'll need to think about how to stay warm.
Armor is nice and all CE approved. The suit is licensed through Dorna.
Here's the good part, most the seams are stitched as real seams, very few "overlayed" seams, and the few that are in the suit are not in impact areas. I initially thought that they had used the dreaded "double stitch overlay" to inset the expansion panel, but on closer inspection inside, it became obvious that they made a regular seam and then double topstitched to strengthen the area.
I have not seen a crashed set, these were new right out of the box. From what I've seen these would be right under the RS Taichi suit on my recommended list for off the rack leathers. you can see them here http://www.bikejam.com/?subcat=2&pmview=&pcview=MOT-65
(This is Lithium's shopping site)
BTW, what looks like white is really the super shiny foiled leather. (front of shins, expansion panel)
Hope this helps those making decisions.
CE armor... Isn't that the "single-use" stuff? Does it have to be replaced after every impact?
Or am I 'foozed.
I've got a set of the black/silver and although I sometimes feel like Ace Freehley (KISS) they are as good or better than the other 6 suits I've gone through. I've never owned an RS suit, but it is as good as similar high end suits in the $1k range.

CE is the European certification, kind of like the UL approval over here.
It doesn't appear to be single use. It's a injection molded soft plastic, but it has a "cush" to it, it's not hard. The single use impact foam I've seen used is nothing like this.

While I s/b all set for leathers (other than some brilliant graphic that I may have you place on the back of mine when I feel good enough to draw more attention to myself - and no comments about a slow moving vehicle triangle from you K3 ;)), Im interested to see your complete ranking of the leather manufacturers Alexa.
You know, #1 through whatever.
It's really hard to do a ranking for several reasons:
*There are different models within each brand
*There are different contruction methods even for the same model, due to model year changes
*Prices can give you better/worse value for your dollar
*Being crash happy or crashless can affect your decision
*Repair costs between each set can vary
I could put together an algorythm, but math gives me a headache, unless I'm dealing with money.
;D
When forced into a generalization:
*Customs rock
*High end suit are sometimes worth their money
*Low end suits you get what you pay for
Quote*Low end suits you get what you pay for
I would say there are exceptions. Personally, I believe Fieldsheer makes some EXCELLENT leathers, but they're still very low-end priced.

Dang! Busted in advance! 8)
Lexa, have you considered a future in politics? ;)
I suppose you're right though.
So where does that place the Taichi and MotoGP suits in the unversal scheme of all things in protective leather?
Chris, it's scary that my mind could hone in on what you might try.
Now don't any of you other bozos take any cheap shots either. Bernie, lbk, Sunny, et al 8)
Great info! I just ordered my new set yesterday so I am very happy to see this report.

Hey Alexa-- after careful consideration I ended up buying the Alpinestar Race replica suit. Got an OK deal at 1600 to my door. Any experience with these? What's the best way to get work done by you before February 12th (first practice of the year in Florida)?

Both those suits are up near the top of my pecking order.
I have no future in politics, as my public speaking skills are sorely lacking. :o ;) ;D
Well, maybe not an elected position. But you have the writing down for a nominated position or even a staffer.
I can just picture you writing for Dick Cheney at some Senate hearing...[cue wavey screen effect and harp strumming]
"Ah, yes Senator [insert favorite Democrat senator's name here]. I suppose it'd be much clearer to you if you'd use your Buddha-like nature to tap into your Zen-like patience." :-[ :-X ;D
BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
If you knew Lex like I know Lex....
ROLF! Man that automatic censor is too much.
It converted the first name of our Vice President to "thingy"
That's where Hitchthingy's nickname comes from. His real last name is the same as director Alfred Hitch---- of suspense fame, but the auto-editor doesn't like him! ;D
Speaking of Hitchcock...I thought I was going to put his "moniker" on his leathers? ;)
I unfortunely think that I get to be the first one to crash in a Moto Gp suit. I've been selling Berek suits for a few years under the Suomy label. Now that they have gone mainstream under the MotoGp name I had to make sure that I had one for myself on the first order.
Within days after the stock of suits arrived I grabbed on off the display rack and headed out to Putnum Park.
After a wonderful afternoon of riding I screwed up and blew turn 9 right before the straight. My thought was to just run off into the grass but it's mostly tree's, Lot's of TREE's.
So the suit (with me in it) took a pretty good beating. A very fast low side into a fence, then bouncing off the tree's and down into the ditch, Not to mention the 916 that landed on top of me. After a nap for a few minutes I was fine.
The suit was great, No ripps, No tears and almost like new. The upper right side took most of the hit and the body armor in the arms, shoulders and knees worked very well. All in all I give the Suit 10 out of 10. Hopefully next year I don't try this again.

Hey sbdduck,
was this the Kangoroo suit? Or one of their regular one's?

Thanks for the crash report. I hope you were mostly ok. Trees SUCK. Sounds like you helmet did it's job as well. I can't stress enough the importance of proper sefety gear.

Now H-Man... Would I do something like that? Yup! ::) I was thinking more in the line of wheely bars! (sorry... I couldn't resist that one)
LOL ;D ;D
Alexa, Thanks for caring. My Suomy held up great, It makes me more confident when I sell one now.
Numbskullz, The suit was a Kangaroo. It is very light and the fit is perfect.
