Title: 2005 Detroit International Autoshow Pictures
Post by: cornercamping on January 12, 2005, 07:27:47 PM
Alright.  Here's some pictures from the first day.  I'll take more tomorrow afternoon.  All are the best my camera can take and they are all pretty big.  I haven't sorted thru them yet and labeled them.  There are also a couple bikes in the pictures that some manufacturers either had custom made for the show, or were concept design bikes.  If you have any questions on which cars are what, let me know and I'll see if I know what it is.  I took as many pictures as I could of each vehicle, and there is even a couple of pictures of me sitting in a Lamborghini Murcielago  :D   The only cars they wouldn't let us fondle were the Maybach's.   :(  Other than that, I pretty much fondeled them all  ;D  This is from the Industry Preview Day's so the public hasn't seen the show yet.  Ya gotta be a supplier or have credentials to get into the show.  Public show opens on Saturday of this week.  Let me know if you guys want pictures of anything specific.  Feel free to download pictures at will.

The pictures of the orange sportbike is a complete bastard bike of a GSXR1000 and like 3 others.  I talked to the engineer for a while about it.

Dan

I'll bill you for a new keyboard ... drooled all over mine ...

Can you say 'SLR' ? WOW! Thx for spending so much time at the MB and BMW booths.

Great display of pix - a little slow, but the display was cool.

Gang night will be Saturday - will you stick around for it? Was always an interesting experience. Ask me if you care to hear.

Thx again for the pix.

PS - Wah Court on Wyandott across the river in Windsor - the best authentic Chinese you'll ever eat in your life. Tell Rose I sent you!

Note to all....

If you click on the first picture, it will pop up a new window and it will enlarge the picture, then you can play a slide show of all pcitures with the little arrows on the pop up.  Then, if you click on the picture again, it get's even bigger.  The pictures are high enough resolution where they make great desktops.  Now if I can just figure out how to get the date off the damn pictures  >:(   I used the lambo motor as my new desktop and it came out awesome.   :D

Lemme guesss... you were there for one of the shoot outs?  LOL....   that's why I only go on the industry day's.  No public = no hassles.  The place was pretty much empty.  It's so big, a few thousand people doesn't seem like much.  I don't do the public days for a reason.  Plus, on public days you can't sit in Lambo's and such.  I haven't put all those pictures up.  My wife took a picture of me in the Roll's Phantom and I even had a driver in the front seat wearing a tux.  :D ;D

I still have a ton of pictures to upload (about 250) but I ran out of webspace.  I bought more, but I guess it takes a little while to update.  I uploaded all the pictures last night, and then notice every file was 0 KB in size because I was over my limit, so I gotta do it all over again  >:(  As soon as they finish giving me more space, I"ll put the rest up.  :D

Nah.  They had the current model and that's it.  I spoke with Oleg who is a BMW engineer that works with Bosch on the engine management systems.  He said no more M3.  M4.  He also told me that they are having problems with the engine management system for the M6, so it'll be atleast a year before it's European release, and 2 years probably before the U.S. release.  They wouldn't get into too many details on the M3 replacement other than it's no longer an M3, and it's a couple years off.

Yeah, it was SMG.  I took a picture of the shifter.   Both M5's (silver and blue pictures) were both SMG.

3 series = 4 doors
4 series = coupe (-> M4)

M5 only gets new 7-gear SMG

There was a massive recall on european 645 last summer.  Not surprised M6 is delayed.  I know why I'm not worried about the bet. ;)

The main problem that they have from my understanding is that they are using multiple "bus" type system and subsystems and they are causing conflicts between each other.   The engine management is CAN B, the body electronics are BEAN, and the rest uses MOST.  All of that with a Flexray or Byteflight type overlay.  So, too many different types of BUS systems in the vehicle.   Who knows by the time they sort it all out, we'll be on 08' MY vehicles.  Either way, I want the M6 and I'll get it should it ever get made.  :D

and I gotta go argue with my dealer tomorrow.  I bought my jeep because I was told that the 300C SRT8 wouldn't be available until mid-summer.  Then, I find out that they are taking orders starting Feb. 1 for them.  I would've waited for it, but I needed a new car because my lease was up on my truck.   I'm very happy with the Jeep, but I probably would've gotten the 300 instead  :-/

I wasn't too impressed with the Charger.  In person, it looks like a mini Dodge Magnum.  More or less, it's the sedan version of the Magnum stationwagon.   :-/

I'd go 300C SRT8.  That thing's bad ass.  440 HP, Recaro leather seat's, Brembo brakes, Eibach suspension.  MSRP is around $42K which isn't really that bad considering what it offers.  Then, throw the Mopar supercharger on it for another 100 ponies, and you're good to go.  Mopar announced this year at the autoshow that all Mopar performance parts that are dealer installed will be honored under factory warranty terms.  So, you warranty won't get void if the dealer installs it. The supercharger kit is like $4K installed for the 300C and puts the HP upto like 550 phonies  :D

The Hemi motors are really sweet.  It's an awesome design. My Jeep has it, and you can't notice the transition from the 4 cyl to 8 cyl mode.  It always has plenty of power on tap, yet it's friendly on your wallet in respects to mpg.  The MDE (multi displacement engine) made me wonder about relability and design issues, but it's flawless.  I thought for sure that you would be able to feel the transition in the motor, but you can't.  I couldn't tell you when it's running on 4 cyl. or 8.   :)

If you can wait, go drive a 300C SRT8.  Definetly a bad ass car.  Especially for the price.   :D
