Title: Great Plains Schedule...
Post by: Spooner on January 05, 2005, 02:52:32 PM
I saw that in the renewall info that the first race for us is in St. Louis.  Then I saw a more 'updated' schedule but didn't see this date listed.  What exactly is the first race, and what is a link to the final schedule??

Tiff... Is it, or is it not on the schedule? Seems to be a bit of confusion.

The schedule that was in the flier DID say "tenative"  :-/  I would prefer to see gateway as well... it would be my first "race", its my "home" track (30 mins away) and it would allow me to be more relaxed knowing the track.  Change that to Road America (gulp)... never been there, all I know is its a FAST track.  With minimal practice sessions (unless there is a full practice day friday) I would like to get in more than a few laps before lining up.  Now if on the CCS could just accomodate all MY needs...  ;)

Any final info (when available) would be great.  Oh and Tiff I left you a few emails and PM's, get back to me when you can please!

thanks

tim

I'm really confuses granted it's not hard to do but, I just got my racer package last week and the schedule in it had Gateway as our first round Apr. 3rd.  I believe the opening round in 2004 was in March at HPT.  That was a bit cold, so I was ok with dropping it from the schedule even though it's only an hour from my house.  Now if Gateway is gone, we don't start till the end of April  :'(

Not only is the season cut like 6weeks shorter, but it leaves us Kansas City racers only 2 tracks that are remotely close driving distance.  Every other event will be 8 hours plus.... >:(

Booo this schedule,  Boooooo!   :D

I think we need a real GP region where we race in the Plains area.  To me Gateway, MAM, and HPT are the Plains area and we should have multiple races there.  The CRA has two races at MAM!    I know that us K.C. racers are a minority, but if we lose Gateway, there's not much difference between our schedule and the Midwest's....

I like Road America and I also enjoy going to Barber, I think Multi Regional events there are super.  But what the hell are we doing at Gratten twice???  Blackhawk is even a stretch....

the Jedi mind tricks don't work on guys from Missouri....

Now for CCS-  You will give us a Gateway round, Gateway will happen....

When sponsors talk, racers listen....lol

Yes Alexa, I will learn to love BHF.  I already like it and I still have yet to get into the top 3 there...

I just would like some closer venues is all.  They took the two closest rounds away... ???

You are learning, young Jedi racers.

We will later discuss the finer points of dealing with "the Empire"... ;) ;D

Anyhow, I know it's frustrating for you guys in Missouri, supposed to be Great Plains, and there seems to be few plains tracks. (Barber ain't exactly GP). Unfortunately the business of racing is complicated and convoluted. I think that's why CCS was reluctant to put out a tenative schedule.

Just focus on what you can reasonablly accomplish, and set some challenging goals; you just might surprise yourself. A positive attitude can take you a long way.

Breathe deep young Jedi, use the force...

From Wichita(how much more plains can you get?), I'm in the same boat plus about 3 hours.  I think everything outside of HPT and MAM are 12 hours or longer for me, so I'll probably only be doing 2 rounds with CCS and that does suck!  Looks like I'll have to buy 3 licenses to do 6 races within a reasonable distance of me.  I have friends in Wichita and Salina that are in the same boat.

Okay.  I get it.
There's an element of complexity when setting up the regional race schedules.  Lots of tracks to consider.  Lots of people to consider.
So there's plenty of oppoprtunity to make racers unhappy.

But:
As I mentioned (whined about) last month......Gingerman?!  Twice?!
That track is on east coast time!  Heck, double up the visits to Autobahn or Blackhawk, it's closer for most of the GP folks!  While you're at it, double the MAM & Topeka visits.  Please!
Despite my crashing history at Gateway, I'm not opposed to holding a race there.  (& I don't want to get Dave Meyer upset!)
Plus, I believe that's the site of the GP regional banquet.  (Ahem!)

Despite the jab from Mister Dorn, Kevin I feel your pain.
(Dawn, don't encourage Mister Dorn......)

Hmm, Mister Dorn?! Jeez, that sounds so official!  ;D

Believe me, I understand Kevin's pain as well. I live in MN (which is in the midwest) and the closest tracks to me are Blackhawk at over 5 hours and Mid-A at almost 6 hours. Gingerman is 11 hours away, but after all, Like Dave says: Racer's race.

I have a feeling once Heartland Park is repaved, more dates will happen. So keep your chin up!

Actually, we were excited that the MW dates are all close except for MAM.  Close meaning 6-8 hours.  MAM is 14.  No matter where we are sent, it's going to be longer for some than others.  It's just part of the deal.

Chad!!!
Sheryl is fine....As long as she doesn't have to deploy to Baghdad later this month.  (In the meantime, she keeps nagging me to get a winter "job".)  I trust life is fine up north?!

Mr. Dorn,
I believe in showing respect to my Thunderbike Elders.  It's part of my psychological approach to racing.  Some call it a weakness, but my mantra (which I chant out loud into turn one, lap one), is always, "politeness & courtesy, politeness & courtesy...."

Heather,
Whenever I complain about the distance required to travel for club racing (but it's sooooo far awaaaayyy.....), I always think of your racing effort, and how during the summer, you must forever feel like packing up the wagon train for another pilgrimage to BFE.
Then I take a deep breath & hit the send button.
(That's the reason I try to be such a gracious host when you & Stumpy make the journey to MAM.)

In the meantime, Chad?  If you've got a lead on a job up north, please let me know!
Umm, part time, no heavy lifting, (in fact, no "manual" labor), no typing, no outdoor work, no dress code, no mean (strict) boss, no nights, weekends off, lots of hot chicks to work with......Wait a sec, there's a Hooters in Omaha!  Oh, umm, never mind.  There's a dress code for the bus boys.

Cheers,
steve

Steve, get a dang job!

say Hi to the lovely Sheryl for me.  ;) hopefully she doesn't get sent off to that big sandbox, who will pour the milk on your cheerios every morning then? Kwan?

did you get those white plates afixed to the Honder yet?
Title: Re: Great Plains Schedule...
Post by: stephenr928 on January 07, 2005, 01:59:37 PM
Dwayne has offered to pour my milk if I need it.....In exchange for my motivational speaking skills.

I've got a team of lawyers looking into the "white plate" issue.  The idea of facing Paul J., Edgar D., Kevin C., Brian L., Paul B., and of course, "He Who Shall Not Be Named" (but wins many national championships), keeps me awake at night.

(Ahem, K3?  Are you thinking of bringing out that new hardware to the knife-fight Thunderbike class?)

I'll pass along your cheery "hello" to my sugar-momma.
And lets not speak of that "job" thing again.

Moving back to why the GP schedule is so horrid!
& I'll see you at MAM July 4th!

Racers race, and I will. What bothers me is, there are 3 tracks within 4 hours of Kansas City (i.e. the middle of the great plains) and we only race at 2 of them, and only once each.  Low turn outs killed Heartland Park. I don't know if repaving it will be enough to save it. I sure hope so.

Seems like some of you Great Plains guys could go race with CMRA if you wanted to.  I'd be racing there more often if it wasn't so far from Chicago, if only because they have an endurance series.
Title: Re: Great Plains Schedule...

Well I guess we could, but then we'd be driving to TX 9 times in a season and that's not a whole lot better if at all.  Last season's Great Plains schedule was fantastic, but it was probably tough on some of the guys up North.  I guess a rotation is only fair...
