Title: only in Wisconsin
Post by: Eric Kelcher on December 27, 2004, 01:12:38 PM
GOOD
A Madison, WI policeman had a perfect spot to watch for speeders, but wasn't getting many. Then he discovered the problem - a 12-year-old boy was standing up the road with a hand painted sign, which read "RADAR TRAP AHEAD".  The officer then found a young accomplice down the road with a sign reading "TIPS" and a bucket full of money. (And we used to just sell lemonade!)

BETTER
A motorist was mailed a picture of his car speeding through an automated radar post in Milwaukee, WI.   A $40 speeding ticket was included. Being cute, he sent the police department a picture of $40. The police responded with another mailed photo of handcuffs.

BEST
A young woman was pulled over for speeding on the interstate.  As a Wisconsin State Trooper walked to her car window, flipping open his ticket book, the young woman said "I bet you are going to sell me a ticket to the State Troopers Ball."  He replied, "Wisconsin State Troopers don't have balls." There was a moment of silence while she smiled, and he realized what he'd just said. He then closed his book, got back in his patrol car and left. She was laughing too hard to start her car.

There are no automated radar/photo sites in Milwaukee. They have never been able to be approved.
 ;D

A small note, if you live in a state where these are legal, it's my understanding that they cannot ticket you for an offense if you are not driving the vehicle. My car is registered to me, but Roger drive most times when we're together. My advice, (I'm not a lawyer) register the car you drive most often to your spouse (provided you are married), that way you MIGHT be able to fight the ticket. (That wasn't me officer!) ;) ;D

Alexa, tickets given by speed and stoplight photo radars are treated like parking tickets. No points involved, but the owner of the vehicle is assessed them like you say. Only way out of them is to prove someone else was driving at the time.
