I know the schedule in the mailer is "tentative", but not showing the Pacific region at all makes many of us believe it's not going to be there in 05. Can you confirm/deny this? I'm fine with getting dates later, but if its not going to be around I need to know that asap.
Would suck to have zero CA rounds.

NOW YOU KNOW WHY! >:(
At least you guys got a schedule in the mail.
When did you get it???
Dave
Just checked my mailbox, No news letter. I don't know mabe mail in Arizona takes longer. Yeah right!
What's up Dave.
The mailer is available online at

If Pacific is no longer part of CCS and the Southwest schedule stays as it is then I will have no choice but to run WERA or AFM next year. I can't put 6 and 12 hours of driving in from San Diego for 6 out of the 8 rounds :-/ Firebird is nowhere near a good enough track to run most of the rounds there and give up Buttonwillow and Streets. Arroyo Seco is 12 hours from the west coast! If that is right then I think that CCS just lost California...I hope that WERA is going to compensate CCS for all of the business they are going to get.
I have never seen a race schedule for the SW that has NO California races on it. I haven't heard anything yet about the Pacific region, but the suspicious absense of a schedule, nor any LP track days in Cali would make one think that here was in fact no Pacific schedule. Maybe it is just as simple as they haven't made the schedule yet! There was no mention of eliminating the Pacific region in the newsletter, :-/
Here are some points to think about if there were no Pacific region for 2005:
What happens to the top ten expert Pacific racers and their earned number plate? Catching and Buck spent a lot of money for races, and Catching chose not to run the SW only races, with the result of Buck winning the SW #1, and Catching winning the Pacific #1. It would be a shame if Catching couldn't use his #1 plate. He definitely earned it.
I'm sure this can be researched, but it seemed to me that the Pacific only races had larger grids than the SW only races. My thinking on that subject is they should have at least run Buttonwillow a couple of times. It has been on the SW schedule for at least 7 years, and for some reason everyone always seems to be in a better mood there. It is also my best track! Streets of Willow was the worst as far as everyone's attitude. I have witnessed many shouting matches between riders. Maybe it is because of the skinny pass zones. :o
What happens to the nice crew they have for the Pacific races? They seemed so laid back and positive that it would be a shame to lose them. This is no knock on Randy and his crew. They are very professional, and some of them are even funny, too! ;D
Last, and most importantly, with no races out there, how can I justify my renewel of my Magic Mountain annual pass? My kids won't be happy! >:(
I for one am hoping that there is a Pacific region.
Folks.. this is just a 'tentative' schedule.
Simply pick up the phone and call CCS about the pacific schedule and if there is one. I'm sure they know if there even is gonna be one.
QuoteWho was it that asked why I was not going to renew
my membership until I saw the schedule?
NOW YOU KNOW WHY! >:(
Hey, Negator (you can play the new monster in som Disney film with that name), I told you earlier in the year to just get the USCPRU one anyway since it they covers you for CCS, without having to backtrack to get the USGPRU license.
-Brian
QuoteI have never seen a race schedule for the SW that has NO California races on it.
When I raced CCS SW there were no California dates. Firebird and Vegas only. I stopped in 97...
I was almost wondering if this was coming. Last year they lost Thunderhill. This year they cancelled the last SOW, due to a disagreement with track management (remember Willow Springs owns WSMC...). Doesn't suprise me if CCS could not get / did not want (depends who's side you're on) a date at either of these tracks. Not that I'm saying there is no Pac region, just what I've been wondering...
What tracks are left in CA?
Fontana - WERA runs there already, probably pretty expensive and hard to schedule.
Buttonwillow - AFM runs there already, and from what I hear their grids there are much larger than CCS.
Sears Point - AFM runs there already, too far for AZ guys or a lot of SoCal guys.
Laguna Seca - Yeah, right, unless you're MotoGP
Pahrump - It's close to CA, but with current track managment there will never be a sanctioned motorcycle race there. And there's no way everyone could fit in the "fueling area".
Reno - Again, close to CA, but not where anyone lives in CA. Don't really know anything else about the track.
It sucks for the SoCal guys, now they're either gonna have to run WSMC or WERA. The NorCal guys already mostly run AFM anyway. What will suck is that the Phoniex and Las Vegas races will lose some of the CA riders.
Oh well, at least I have no reason to drive 12 hours to Buttonwillow next year...
-z.
This clearly a Clear Channel decision (no pun intended.)
No profit, No region.
Why was Thunderhil lost by CCS?
If you had a choice between Firebird and Sears Point,
which would you choose?
I'll be doing AFM.
If I go to Vegas, it will be with WERA and the only time CCS will see me is on a USGPRU weekend.
Did you know this message board is censored
for "naughty" words?
Thank you Jesus!
Go ahead and run AFM, look what happened, two guys died in one season, I'll stay with CCS.
QuoteIf you had a choice between Firebird and Sears Point,
which would you choose?
I'd pick Firebrid. It still takes me 3 hours just to get there, let alone the tracks in Cali. Sears point is just that much further than Buttonwillow for me. BW takes me 14 hours to get to. SoW takes me 12. Vegas takes me 9-10 depending on traffic.
I don't want to lose the PAC tracks and riders either, I'd just as soon travel OCCASIONALLY to the Cali tracks to race with you guys, but money is always a factor.
I spend between $1,500 and $2,000 per weekend. More if it's a twinsprint. This shouldn't be news to some of you but to others......
The closer the races, the less money it cost me to run. :-/
Dave
QuoteI'd pick Firebrid.
I'm with you, Dave. It's nice to travel only 1.5 hrs from Tucson to a track for racing once in awhile. Firebird is the only track that my parents and some of my friends from Tucson can travel to for races, because it's a short day trip for them. So at least they get to spectate and watch some of my races a few times a year.
I'm pretty happy with the SW schedule for next year. Arroyo, which is my favorite track to run, finally made it on there, and we even got 2 rounds. Plus, there's no conflict this year between CCS & ASMA, which is good. I'm really looking forward to next season.
Quote Arroyo, which is my favorite track to run, finally made it on there, and we even got 2 rounds. I'm really looking forward to next season.
I'm not looking forward to racing you on Zac's old R6 at Arroyo. You're gonna make me look silly.
Would you guys be willing to share a mid-week track day there?? I thought that for $100 each for 5 of us it would be worth our time and money. I might be able to get a couple of guys plus me to share the expenses.
Lets not do it on the shortest day of the year though. ;D
Lemme No
Dave
Yeah, right. ::) I'm still learning to ride the damn thing. Still playing around with suspension and such.
I don't know if you heard, but Zac broke his wrist last race (long story). So he's in a cast until the 27th. :-/ We've got 3 engines to pull and work on, so we'll probably be swamped doing that.
You'll have fun if you go out there with a small group like that. Roger's usually available, too, so he hops on the R6 and plays. I always have a bit of trouble riding on days like that, because you realize there's no cornerworkers if you go down. But that usually makes you slow down, which helps when learning that track.
Well, now the moment you have all been waiting for, ME to weigh in on this 2005 schedule. Okay, maybe you have not been waiting but I will bet you won't stop reading! ;D I don't have any word on the Pacific region, but I do know that it was and has been since its inception hemorraging badly at times. Think about it, even though the grids usually outnumbered that of other races, they still lost the coin- Cali tracks are not cheap and some like to play silly games (just my OWN honest opinion) and others, while the friendliest track owners on the planet, just lose us by being in an area where even a gallon of milk cost a 1/3 more than anywhere else! It stinks as I really think that multiple tracks have helped us cultivate some serious talent that have gone on to great sucess elsewhere. On a great note, is the news of us racing in New Mexico with Roger and his crew! I knew about this for awhile and was busting to tell- but was sworn to secrecy lest Kevin make me eat my microphone! Of course, the AMP park is in the news again- but do not expect it to open unfortunately for racing. Plus, the concession they will make to reopen does not allow bikes on course before 10 am and off by 6pm- just won't work with our class laden schedule. I apologize for the late start to the season, My fiancee Beth (scoring and registration) and I are getting married February 20th and told Keving no racing on that date, and we really appreciate him listening (disclaimer for you conspiracy theorists- just kidding so shut it!). Don't forget to RSVP for the banquet- I have talked ot many who are going to show and from the short list I have compiled, it sounds like a lot of fun will be had as usual!! Happy holidays to all of you- Cory ;)

Wow! Congrats to both of you! :D
I'm actually glad the season doesn't start until the beginning of March. More time to prepare! So thanks for any, uh, "convincing" that went on (or didn't go on...not that I'm insinuating anything...cause I'm not).

Conspiracy theory time!!! ??? Banquet info for SW and Pacific has never seen my eyes....I believe I won a championship in each and would appreciate getting my plaque at least, as well as a fun dinner with the fun people I got to hang out with this year. :)
Congrats on the upcoming wedding as well!
-Brian
Brian: The banquet is March 5, at 7:30 PM. You can see the link on the CCS homepage. It is for the SW AND Pacific regions. :-/
Elaine: COME ONNNNN!!! >:(
Cory: Congrats and stuff about the wedding! Hey, if Dave gets the Arroyo Seco track day going, do you want to ride with us? I'll pay your way as a token wedding gift. I've got bike'o'plenty, so don't worry about equipment. I'll loan you some leathers, too, but I have to see if I have a girl's size! ;D
Dave: I have a group of 5 (or more) that will go anytime anyone wants to go to Arroyo. I'm sure we can get more by just getting the word out. We joke around a lot and tend to be a bit less serious than most racers would like (plus there is an abundance of farting!), but we always have fun. Roger would let us play with pocketbikes, too, and there is a nice section that can be coned off for a lunchtime pit bike "demonstration"! We would need to bring a flag guy or two, and maybe someone that has a bit of medical know how. How much lead time do you/Roger need?
You can call me anytime at 602-628-8321
You know Beth was underage when I met her......wait.......does that make me old?
If it's on a weekday I only need a few days notice. Weekends lots more notice! There is one weekend open in January still and we also have trackdays on Jan 15-16th.
Also, I have added additional runoff in 6 of the turns this week (200ft in one turn)...hopefully be finished by tomorrow or Wednesday. Not that there was really a problem, just trying to smooth out a little bit of the desert.

Nice. Thanks a lot. I'll be able to meet you all proper like.
All of the way out in AZ. Hmmm. :) Maybe I can decide to race that weekend then. :)
Is that place the Best Western Dobson Ranch? I know little about things in AZ. :)

Hey Roger, would you kindly come out to WSIR and do that as well? :) There's tons of run off, but it's VERY deserty (rocks, bumps, etc).
-Brian
Ray: You and your boy best be gettin' as much track time as possible at Arroyo. YOU'RE GONNA NEED IT!!!!! :P
Unless you like the look of my #196 labeled rear. ;D ;)
HMMMMMMMM!!!
Do I detect a challenge? :D
How about a fun little contest? ;D
Maybe some sort of points accumulation for the year for specific classes that we would already run? The Hymers vs the Beastley's? ::)
Winner buys dinner! :o
You're on! (Though you don't want me pokin fun at your last name to get you back :-X ;)).
I say we make Ultra Lightweight Superbike the throw down class. That class needs more lovin' & attention anyways, and I think the 4 of us have bikes to race in it. A little family rivalry should do some good for that class. And the class is oddball, just like us. ;) We'll make Roger & Cory our online "witnesses" for the inception of the challenge.
Dinner it is! :D
Well, I wasn't planning to run ULSB, but what the heck! My EX500's all suck (various states of disrepair!), and the Bandit 400 is WAY SLOW!! Plus, we don't know what race they will be combining it with!
I kinda like LWSB or GT Lights, though. I'm not sure how fast the CR500 is, so that may be unfair, but I know your Muz is faster than Steven's or my SV650! >:(
I have no plans for any engine work on my SV650, so it will be Supersport legal.
We could make it a 2 stage thing, like you vs me in a lightweight race, and Zac vs Steven in a middlewieght race!
I'll take the challenge, but let's make it for dinner on each weekend! :P

Roger,
I'll give you a call to workout the logistics. It probably won't be for a week or so as I have some other things going on that will impact my schedule both now and then (when I think I would like to come out and ride).
Ray,
I can think of a few that would want to ride during the week (cheapest rates) but the more the merrier.
I'll let you know when I know more.
Dave

I like the ULWSB idea, it's the only class Elaine and I were both planning on running. It would also be wicked fun to watch the cutthroat action on a bunch of oddball bikes. Oddball bikes are way cool.
I was planning on ULWSB on the CR and LWGP on the TZ, as those are the only classes those bike are really competitive in. I'll probably ride one or two more classes too, like GTL on the CR or GTU on the TZ (I can't believe that a little tiny 250 is not allowed to race all the big 650s in GTL...)
-z.
What impeccable timing. Mailed my license renewal in yesterday and found this thread today :o
Hopefully the rumors are not true. It would be great to see CCS back at Thunderhill - just don't schedule an event to coincide with an AFM event this time!
Zac or Ray,
Does anyone know what the class breakdown will be at Arroyo? The tentative schedule states "limited CCS classes". I'll be running AM Lightweight Formula 40 and Ultralight Superbike.
Ray, I believe we may have met at Firebird in Oct, I'm racing Paul Laffy's old EX500.
Thanks,
Ed

CCS classes:
Lightweight Superbike (but will also allow 125s)
Lightweight GP (but also allows 748/9)
Middleweight Supersport
Middleweight Superbike
Heavywieght Supersport
Heavywieght Superbike
Unlimited Supersport
Unlimited Superbike
Formula Arroyo/Formula Amatuer (same as Unlimited GP)
Formula 40 (open bikes allowed)

Formula Femme (female riders, open bikes)
Southwest Thunder (singles, twins, and triples)
Modern Vintage (10 year and older)
Team Sprints (two riders, one bike, mandatory rider change halfway, fun)
Currently we don't have hardly any SVs out there, so last year both the LWSB and LWGP (formerly known as Lightweight Twins & Singles and Formula 2 respectively) championships were won by a Hawk, with some singles filling out the top ranks. We don't have an ultra-lightweight class, but if we had the numbers to justify it we could try to get it added. The track doesn't reward horsepower that much, so bring the EX out.
I belive for the combined CCS SW / ASMA races all the CCS and ASMA classes will run, probably on a two day schedule.
-z.
Actually we'll only be doing the ASMA/CCS classes we normally run during those events.

Roger, how can Steven and I go kick Elaine's and Zac's butt in Ultralightweight Superbike if there is no class? I had already started to get my dinner order ready!! ;D Dang it! :(
Elaine, what do you normally run in ASMA? What class fits the Muz, CR, and SV650?
Ray
I'm a little disappointed that there isn't a GTU class at Arroyo.
Aside from the basic desire to run that class on that track, I have obligations to sponsors for it. I guess those races won't count toward my quest for a an overall win. :-/
Dave
Roger & Zac
Thanks for the info regarding the class breakdowns @ Arroyo. I'm looking forward to the trip as it sounds like a fun place to race. The schedule indicates these are 2 day events, but you only showed a schedule for Sunday, is Saturday an open practice/trackday?
Again, thanks for the info.
Ed

QuoteElaine, what do you normally run in ASMA?
In '04 we had different classes, so I ran LW Twins & Singles, SW Thunder, and Formula 2. SW Thunder is still around (though I may not run it next season), and LW Superbike is the new one that I'll probably run on the MZ.
At Arroyo, we could duke it out in Team Sprints. That is the
funnest race, and I recommend anyone that can, grab a partner and race it. It's a Lemans start, which is hilarious. First rider rides 10 mins, then comes into the hot pits and switches, and 2nd rider does the last 10 mins. Everyone comes into the hot pits on the same lap.
Zac and I can run it on the MZ. You and Steve can run one of your SVs.
We have Friday half day trackday(afternoon, $50.00) and Saturday trackdays (all day, $90) at each one of our events. We tried the GT races last year but didn't have enough entries to make them work. We are thinking of doing a true endurance race this year though, like a 4 hour or something like that.
Watch out for Zac when he's on the MZ....Win or break, win or break.......lol
Zac may win or break, but they have made a tragic mistake making a dinner bet with 2 fat guys!! ;D
OK, let's make it the teams sprints thingy. I'm not sure which SV650 we will use, but it will be a supersport legal one.
You two will need to add ballast, though. ;)
Steven and I are both over 270# as of today. I wonder how much the two of you weigh together?!! ::)
We really need to make sure that Cory knows about this. He would really get a kick out of it.
Hey, Roger, what chance of having a two up race? It would be awesome to see guys with passengers! It would be kinda like sidecar racing without the sidecar! 8)
Oh, and count us in with the endurance race. We were going to do the 6 hour with WERA at Willow Springs, but our CCS race at Firebird Main conflicts with it. :(
On another note, I have noticed that GTU usually has a larger grid than GTO, so you may want to check into that. Why can't you run the CCS GT races on Saturday at the end of the day? I do like the half day Friday practice, especially since I haven't ever raced there.
Quote Why can't you run the CCS GT races on Saturday at the end of the day? I do like the half day Friday practice, especially since I haven't ever raced there.
I'd be good with that. Maybe it can be worked in. Of course, I'm sure all of the GT races would have to be run, or combined if grids are too small.
Dave
Hey Cory ...
BETH .. is that Beth Kraus?? or do I have her mixed up with somebody else?
QuoteHey, Roger, what chance of having a two up race? It would be awesome to see guys with passengers! It would be kinda like sidecar racing without the sidecar! 8)
The problem with doing Saturday races is that it burns out our crew, costs way more in insurance and would hurt the people who can't make it on Friday to learn the track by taking away their Saturday practice.
We tried the Saturday deal this year and ended it at midseason. I'm sure there is a reason the SW region quit racing on Saturday also.
Chances of a 2 up race? Probably none because I doubt anyone's insurance carrier would cover it......although I've taken a few passengers for sub 1:20 lap times... :P
QuoteHey Cory ...

Hi Jeanne! No its Bethany Knapp, she was not at the Vegas race this year but I am not sure you have met her. You would know if you did, especially if she had a few beers in her and was with my sister and mom (ask Kevin- and no for the rest of you). Hope you and Alan have a good holiday!- Cory

I'm sorry to quote myself (I work for the Gov'mint, we thrive on redundancy) but after I sent that message I realized something very important........
When CCS did away with the PAC Region, I lost my tire sponsor (Pirelli, shameless plug, but pertanent none the less) My Pirelli sponsor is based out of Cali and without racing there, he will be taking his support to other series. There is a different supplier for the Arizona/Nevada area. However, my sponsorship was with Tom Jirkovski of CRS, not directly with Pirelli itself.
No support, No sponsorship.
THANKS CCS >:(

I know, but I have inside info. My ride was secure with Tom and Pirelli (don't ask me how yet ;)).
It was a good ride, wouldn't have had to buy tires for the season. That would have been HUGE for the racing budget. Now, who knows........
I've been in contact with Chris, he's the AZ/NV Pirelli guy. He has no reason to support any promisses that Tom made, why should he? I guess I'll just have to wait and see in January when Pirelli's budget is final. :-/
