Title: new racer sayin hello...
Post by: tstruyk on December 09, 2004, 07:55:25 AM
Just wanted to take a tic and introduce myself to the racing community.  I am sure I'll get to know many of you over the years.  I have been riding over 10 years on the street and have finally found my way into racing.  This past year has been bike prep and track time getting ready for next season.  I plan on competing/surviving the MW AM classes in the great plains ccs on my trusty 02 R6.  I have met alot of great people at the TD's and cant wait to get the 05 season going.

quick thanks to rob at LMsports for everything he has done and will be doing in the next few months, also to LCRS for my "introduction" to the track,
and let me just give a preemptive thanks to all of you who are going to answer the 1000 questions I'll have all year.  I cant described how pumped I am about next season!!!

Looking forward to it!!!!

Tim,

This is Rick Weaver.  We talked at Gateway last summer. If you don't remember, I'm the guy who helped out with the swim meets at Laurel Park and who knows your Mom, Dad and brothers.  I'm working at the St. Charles YMCA now.

There are several CCS racers in St. Charles, St. Peters and O'Fallon that I can hook you up with if you havn't met them already. At least 5 or 6 that I can think of off the top of my head.

Glad to see you made the decision to give it a try.
Anything I can help you with, don't hesitate to ask.
My email is Recplex@aol.com

Good luck!  I think you'll find a great group of people here.

Rick

Hey Tim,

Glad to see you made it here to the boards.  There's a lot of good info to be had here if you ignore the right people.   ;D

speaking of columbia...Whats up Kris!!  how ya feeling?  Figured you'd catch me when I got on  the board.  Lookin forward to seeing you at least in the pits next year, if not on the track.  Hope everything is going well.

Welcome aboard Tim!

I'll be Looking forward to reading your report after your first race w/e.

I'm sure you'll have fun on the track and enjoy chasing your personal goals out there.  But, for me, it's the people I've met (both racers and their supporters) who make race w/e's an event I anxiously look forward to time and again.

Mmmmmmmm!  Fresh meat! ;D

Kim Olsen once told me about a quote that is appropriate here.
"Racing makes a heroin addiction seem like a vague craving for something salty."
I don't know who said it, but they were right.  Run while you still can! ;)

It was written by Peter Egan...

BTW,welcome to racing. Now remember the only rule we have: Don't feed K3!

Welcome Tim:

Just one (another) BIG rule......

Great people, good times, lots of tires!!!!

good advice on the "keep it fun" thats my whole goal.  If its not fun why bother?  It took too long to convince the fiancee that this was something I "needed" to do!!

I am sure everyone to an extent has delusions of grandeur taking home all the wood there first year.  Me?  I want to be just a bit faster or smoother than only one person...myself.  I figure the wins will present themselves.  thanks for the kind words all and I look forward to the good times next spring!!

"Next spring"?  Hell, why wait 'til then.

I've started already.  I'm the tentative Thunderbike champ in the Midwest and Great Lakes regions.

Oh... wrong thread with that "tentative" thing ;) ;D

Tim,

Welcome!  Remember, it's you against the track. Please have fun, that's what this is all about.  If it were about money, it would be called Work.

Welcome!

Yeah, it has to be fun.

There are good people out there.

But, advice can be misleading as this sport is so addictive, it takes people out of it before they ever really learn anything.

Smooth is fast.  But the set up of the bike is paramount.  Anything less, well, you work to hard, use up tires, and someone else goes faster with less work, a smaller tire bill, etc.

I'll keep it simple at that.  Enjoy!
