Title: Leather care/cleaning
Post by: DNR on November 01, 2004, 01:14:06 PM
Hi

How would I go about cleaning racing leathers?  The tags on the inside of the suit says no washing, drycleaning etc.  I bought the set used and I'd really like to clean them inside and out as much as possible.

Thanks

Do a search on "leather care" or "leather cleaning". There are a few posts about taking care of leathers in the archive.

I'm big into vintage cars and Leatherique is generally considered the best.

Maguires is pretty good too.

Call Alexa at spider leather works. She has some great tips on home care and cleaning of leathers.

You can email me at\spyder@wi.rr.com

I'll give you the skinny on what they need if you can pinpoint the problems.

Wash it on gentle cycle with Tide. Drying will take a couple of days. Lay it out on some junk towels, it will probably bleed. As it is drying rub it down with a water based hand lotion. Flip it over a few times as it drys. During the drying process as the surface of the leather becomes dry continue to rub it down with lotion. This will take a couple of days and will need to rubbed down about every six hours or so.
