Title: Wegeman weekend team challange poll
Post by: Mark Bernard on October 31, 2004, 04:41:53 AM
This poll is being created to see how many racers in the MW region are willing to participate in a team challange to benifit the Wegman fund at BHF the weekend of the auction for 2005. Not saying it will ever happen, but we would just like your opinions.

I said yes,
But it would be better as a real endurance race not a team challange.

By this I mean a timed race from 3 to 8 hours not a lap or mile distance.

I'm in!  Where do I send my money?

Why couldn't this be held on Friday?  That way it wouldn't effect the CCS schedule, and it could be a real endurance race like that nfcracin guy said.

Lonny? ;)  Need a teammate?

I'm in.

K3, you don't want to race with Lonnie.  He falls down in T1 on cold tires!  :P ;D

C'mon racers, pony up your opinions and or ideas... Team challange or endurance? Friday or Saturday? What are your opinions and thoughts? I have never run in a team challange so I am going blind here folks. Paul... any thoughts? Rember people, this is just a poll. No one is saying anything will happen with this. Just an idea at this point. But if we get some good plyable ideas, I will pitch it to Ft. Worth. So far the response has been 100% in favor. Need more votes and ideas tho. Keep em comming! Mark B.

I was thinking it would be a good way for CCS to contribute to the Wegman Fund by them donating all of the entry fees to Wegman and providing the race/staff, etc.  Of course, CCS would have to agree to all this.   ;)

I'm IN...  I like Friday, and whatever format works best, I'll do it.  I don't have an opinion either way (3 - 5 hours, Challenge...).

It should be a 3 hr Endurance , it should run on friday afternoon. Start at 3pm run till 6pm. Have open practice as usual from 8 till 3.Run 2 classes GTO & GTU. Require every team to have at least One (1) expert rider.

With the Wegman Fund somehow being the beneficiary of this race I would like to add mho.

I agree with fourandsix about the time (3 hrs) it's a good fit for any number of riders. Although there would need to be at least an hour break between practice and race start so practice would run from 8-2.  I also agree with the "one expert rider" idea. I also think with the large number of lightweight bikes we need to have a GTL class also.

A possibility for this would be for Blackhawk Farms to hold the race as the promoter since they hold the open practices on Friday.  They could charge a practice fee and a seperate race entry fee. All bikes entered in the race would have a seperate and easily identifiable tech sticker or frame tag so no "practice only" bikes could enter the track during the race.

The fund could benefit from a cut of the entry fee and/or racers getting pledges for their race laps. Would this not be be a great opportunity for outside sponsorship by a dealer or other company looking for exposure with naming rights???

I will talk to Mike Irwin about the possibility of the track doing this on the Friday before the Wegman weekend.

Now I just need to see all the race schedules so I can schedule the Wegman weekend so it doesn't conflict with any other races.

We would also need to get a strong group of corner workers for this event. Normally corners are lightly tended on Fridays. That could not be the case for an actual race........ and shouldn't be for practice but that's another story.

You guys pitch it to more racers and CCS, I'll pitch it to BHF and we'll see what we can get going.

I say if the Weg. gets a portion of the $$ we charge like $300 a team have a nice purse and a nice donation. I think it is key to have a good payout b/c some people don't get it. You don't go to the auction or in this case the race looking for a deal you would run the race to win and help Gordo raise $$ for us/Weg.

$50.00 -prize $$
$100.00 -ccs (
$150.00 Weg

If the endurance were held on Friday, it wouldn't even necessarily need to be a CCS sanctioned event, except for maybe insurance purposes.
My money still sucks, but I'll enter this race if it's the only one I can afford to run all year!  I'm a huge fan of both Wegman and endurance, so putting the two together is a perfect fit for me.
Gordie, I'll bet the workers will respond in droves for this idea, especially if, oh, say $5 from each entry goes to a keg fund for them!  Knowing how dedicated and in love with racing the workers are, I'd even be willing to bet they might donate their services that day.  Just give them plenty of lead time to plan their vacations.
This is a big-time idea!  Gordie, let me know if I can help.  (I have been known to write a few words now and then....)

How many kegs do these folks drink? ::) ;) ;D Spyder Leatherworks would be willing to pony up keg money for corner workers for this event if it happens. :D

I'm down wit it.  Open to either format, either day.  Folks who decide to participate in the race should get a break on the practice day fee, but otherwise, I'm open to the rules as they may be created.

Good ideas flowing here! ;D

Would love to help in anyway also.

The most amazing aspect of all of this for me....

......to think that the seed for this special event was planted by that icon of dependability, the Guru of making every lap count, riding a bike synonomous with reliability, known near and far for staying in the race till the end - even if it means running without a belly pan - Mr. Mark Bernard :-*
