Title: Yamaha Reg/Rec???
Post by: Nate R on October 27, 2004, 06:32:09 PM
Any idea how I can test the Reg/Rec on my FZR400?

The manual has you go through a series of tests of other things in the charging system, and if they all check out, it says to just replace the reg/rec.  ::) No actual test for it in the Yamaha repair manual.

Is there a universal test? Will they all be about the same as far as readings between some of the leads? Can I maybe use a test from a Suzuki?

Battery isn't being charged properly. I think it's a problematic connector coming off of the generator, but I can't check that until I chop the connector off and get to bare wires. I'd rather test the reg/rec first, if I can.

Only putting out 10.0V at 3K RPM at the battery terminals. Should be putting out 14-15 according to manual.

You can check the rectifier but not the regulator portion of the unit.  You should have 3 yellow, 1 red and 1 black? going to your reg/rect.  You need a meter with ohm or diode checking.  Test from red to yellow(all 3 yellow's 1 at time).  Then switch polarity of your test lead's and repeat.  Then test from black to yellow(same as above) then switch polarity of your test leads.  What you are looking for with the diode test is .5 one way then no continuity when you switch polarity.
