Title: And with that...
Post by: Super Dave on October 05, 2004, 07:00:17 AM
Yesterday, I had my final Visionsports' school program for the year at Blackhawk Farms.

During the year, I had five formal schools with my instructor staff for new racers and sport riders, three Visionsports' Racer Universities for current road racing license holders, and several One-On-One sessions...those can be anywhere.

Anyway, I started working with new racers in 1988 trying to get guys to race so I could have someone to split gas money with.  In 1993, I started teaching riding schools for Championship Cup Series in 1993.  In 1999, I formed Visionsports, Inc to do what I've done...offer input to a broad range of riders...from Experts to noobs, from amateurs to AMA Pros as a consultant.

My thanks go out to this seasons instructor staff...

Mark and Meghan Stiles

Brent Stanley

PJ Thornton

Mike Riebe

And to my sponsors for this season, many of which I have worked with for many, many years...

http://4and6.com  - Jim, Shawn, and Ed

http://www.sportsmanspark.net - Matt...thank you!

Suomy Helmets - Donny's the man

Vesrah

Power Mist

Motosliders.com

Sliderphoto.com

Vanson Leathers - Getting thrown from a train couldn't be bad if you were wearing Vansons

Oxtar Boots

Woodcraft -  Eric Wood...good guy.  His mom is great at taking care of business too.

Midwest Golf Cars

Gillette Auto Body

Mason Racin Tires - Tom, thanks for being there when I returned to 600's, and always being motivated about racin' and ridin'...

Michelin - Thank you so much for your confidence and thoughts.

Hyperpro - rising rate springs rule!

Micron - WOW!

So, what's next...   ;D

Thank you for your help.

And for those that have worked with me.  I thank you for your support.  I hope that you were able to apply something that you learned from my program.  If you didn't, then you should have talked more to me.   :)  That's what I was here to do.

Next year?

Good question.

Every year is different.

I've spent years racing.  I've never had a decent budget, so I've always been able to skimp on a lot of things.  I was never a great racer out of the box, I had a whole lot to learn.

Vintage racing taught me a lot that I never could have learned from modern production bikes.

As a corportation, Visionsports, Inc has required a huge amount of my own investment money wise.  Lawyers for incorportation, accounting, website, phone, insurance...all that way before you even try renting a track. let alone try to get any customers.  So, I think it will eternally all be in a hole trying to repay anything that has been amoritized through any credit...let alone ever getting that money back.

I'm in a job transition now.  That will play into it all.  I'll race, certainly, with my cancer program.  The vintage rides have been coming out of the woodwork lately, which are fun, but not necessarily pulling the numbers of spectators we used to have...in 1996, the AHRMA races at Mid-Ohio pulled in like 65,000 people...it out pulled the AMA National the next weekend.

Schedules don't get finalized at Blackhawk Farms until after the MidWest Council SCCA meeting in November.  Then everyone's stuff falls into place.  I'll have instructors that move on, or individuals that I ask to work with me, if I have a formal program.

Really, everything is up in the air.  You never know.

I'll race.

Should be doing the Daytona 200, and I'd like to do the AMA National Championship Series, but I'll need funding to do that to make money for childhood cancer research.

Ah, back to the job thing yet too...waiting for one in particular...at least a "no" would give me some guidance that I need to look outside for something new to do.

Congratulations on a great season, Dave!  It was good to see you out there giving everyone else a hard time at the front of the pack.

As far as SuperDave's program, he has definitely had an impact on Team Stumpy Racing and how we operate.  Dave's a great guy to have on your side.

Hey, thank you.

What you've done was really part of what motivated me to create the program that I did in 1999.  I had no where to turn, really, when I needed help early on.  There was no information, no answers.  We just rode.  And bikes and tires were a bit different.

It's nice to be reconized for running up front too.

Trying to help out so many people is very, very taxing on me.  I'm often working for more people than myself.  Leaves me quite thin, and I usually just don't have any help either.

For 2004, I decided that I would stop my sales and distribution of Power Mist Racing Fuel.  I've worked with the Fales's family since 1992 using their fuel and even designing one fuel and an oil.  Trying to race, tackle inventory, give advice...finally, something needed to change.  I decided to keep my Power Mist in my tank and let everyone find their own.

I think having that little space allowed me just a bit more time to think about what I was doing and work a little closer with Tom Mason and my friends at 4&6 on my set up that has allowed me to be a little more happy with how I rode.

Regardless, I take a huge amount of pride in seeing MY racers accomplish things.  Often this is about personal victories.

I do hope all things work out so you can ride AMA again.  I'm sure you will work hard to get back.
