Title: SD dirt track - Results?
Post by: Super Dave on September 24, 2004, 09:54:03 AM
Super Dave Rosno will take on the dirt track at Lake Mills, Wisconsin's Aztalan Short Track on Saturday September 23rd.

http://www.aztalancycle.com/location.asp

Riding the Janisch Racing CRF450, Dave will certainly compete in the over thirty class.  "Yeah, I'm over thirty, but I'm certainly not the dirt tracker that most of the guys in the class are.  I was lucky enough that the Janisch family gave me this opportunity this year.  I'm really happy to try again,"  Dave said.

Heat races begin at 530PM and with semi's and finals continuing late into the night.

Dave will have "Super Dave's Race Against Childhood Cancer" shirts and stickers on-hand.

Himm.......

Road Racing = Run off, gravel traps, air fence

Dirt Track = No front brakes, an oval surrounded by a cement wall and if your lucky some hay bales.

Paul had the opportunity to dirt track.  I told him no f***ing way.

Um, banked oval dirt track...less traction...so you have to go slower, lined by a simple fence...like you have for snow drifts.  Even then, they are a ways away.

Got six laps of practice.  Not how I wanted it to go.

Heat race.  With all the practice time, I couldn' remember if I was using third or fourth going around the track.  Ended up using fourth and blew it and fell over.

Got up, but we failed to talk about the compression release for hot starts.  Got it started eventually, but I didn't the the transfer to the main.

Well, that can be good for me...I need the practice time.

Semi's for the heavily entered class...that was mine.

Good start, rode better.  Got fourth, the last transfer spot for the main.  So, that makes about fifteen laps total for me.

Final...only a fair start, and then time to go to work.  But two bone heads got all tied up in front of me.  Fell down.  I tried to get around the mess, but I guess I was where it was a little looser and slick, so I went down too.  Kept the bike running, but killed it trying to get moving.  Restarted and back in the game.  More fallers, so I ended up ninth.

Fell down twice...bike uninjured.  I though I ripped the left grip, but I guess Jesse did that before.

I think I dragged my left knee twice...LOL!

Jesse won the pro class.

Didn't destroy any tires, didn't use any special gas, and between Jesse and I we dropped $40 in entry fees...Jesse got $65 back for the win.  So, it was fun.

How fast do the bikes get going?

Was very fun...

How fast?  I'm not sure.  I wasn't fast enough...visually, I can tell I'm not.   I think I might be able to heave a football from the apex of the one end to the other...Third gear tapped out on a CRF?  45?  65?  Not sure...again, I wasn't fast enough.

3rd gear tapped on the 450 is friggin fast...  probably in the 65mph range...

Now that's not fast for us street folk, but when you're on unstable surface and the bike is trying to pull your arms out of their sockets, it's FAST...

I've raced a lot of bikes and I don't think that I've been on one that has the sheer power feel of a CRF450...

Damn city boys, no wonder so many people can't ride street bikes, they never rode in the dirt.  8) :-X

Nick, some of us don't play in the weeds as much as you do :D

Good Job SuperDave.  My experience with dirtbiking is limited.  Got showed up by kids on 50s (all of them), literally threw my CR125 all around 'cause it's too race prepped for me to start.  Haven't started racing..yet.   They have an 'over 30' class?  ONE more year for me.  Umm, am I old??
