What's the best route to pre enter for races? On-line, fax it in? Best/worst? Stories?
I have always faxed it in.
Fax.
Unless they recently changed their method, I would not trust the security of their online registration with my SSN or CC#... (and I spend $12-15k/yr online)
I have always faxed my entries from the local Kinko's center, their fax machine recieves a confirmation from the recieving fax machine so that way you have a copy of what CCS's machine recieved. I have always had a flawless pre-entry doing this, except for the last time at Barber. After standing in the pre-entry line for 2 hours (since 7am) I was told that my pre-entry was not there. By this time practice was already happening and I was told I would have to show proof of the entry, which was in my truck in the pits, which at Barber is quite a hike. I returned with the fax confirmation to be told that without some type of proof of the charge against my account that I would have to post-enter and that a couple of the classes I had pre-entered for were full! Eventually after speaking with race control they found my pre-entry in the main computer and I was entered as though I had made the cut-off time that morning. The down side was that practice was over by the time this was all done and my only race on Friday was one of the 1st, so without any track time at a track I had minimal time on I skipped that race on Friday for safety reasons.
I was told by someone that they had a similar experience and that they now call and confirm the pre-entry every time now, probably a good idea. I think they should start a confirmation system that issues a confirmation number (e-mail maybe?) that lists all classes pre-entered for and what the pre-entry time was for order of entry reasons.
I've had brutal results with the online pre-reg. They had me at Road America in April and nothing since then.

Makes you wonder who is building houses and buying yachts with your Name, SSN, Address, CC#'s, etc...
I've been using the online form. Fast, easy, and haven't had any problems with it.
I'm sure faxing works, but my arms are locked to my keyboard all day, so the online deal works great for me.
One small, very minor suggestion for the online form... can we have a confirmation page, that I can print out? Or, maybe a confirmation email sent to me that reflects what I've selected and whatnot. It takes me about 27 seconds, and I've forgotten what races I've entered. And, the day after I do it, I'm wondering if I even pre-entered.
Please, and thank you.
I really hate asking for more work from the CCS team, I know they are working their little butts off already.
I have used both the on-line form and faxing. Both with good results.
On the on-line form, after I choose the classes we're going to enter, I print the page before submitting it. Then, we get the automatic confirmation e-mail. I print that too. This way, I have documentation to bring to the track incase the pre-entry information doesn't make it to the race.
Faxing --- same thing, bring the original and the confirmation receipt from my fax machine.
Dawn ;)
Thanks all, what is the cut off time to pre enter? Then you still have to go to register in the morning right?

Mike, the cut-off time is before the opening of business at CCS on Monday morning 2 weeks before the event. If your entering the next BFR event then you need to have it in before they open for business this upcoming week, I imagine they are closed monday, but I wouldn't wait that long.
Yes you do still have to go to registration, but all you have to do is sign the sheets, get your transponder, and your ready to go.
on-line
Well you have to mail it in if you ever use the certs they give for placing in the GT's. I wish they kept a record online so you could do your stuff there. I am so slack when mailing.
