Title: Insurance woes...
Post by: cornercamping on August 11, 2004, 12:36:30 PM
So, today I get the first bill from Progressive for the wife's new car.   $1326.00 EVERY 6 months  :o  This is just for that car.

Then,

2003 Dodge Ram: $900.00 every 6

Then the bikes (2): $3750.00 every 6

Total:

$5976.00 every 6 months for cars and toys.  :o

This is all thru Progressive, with mutliple vehicle discounts.  My question is where the hell is the discount  ???  Obviously, full coverage is on everything, but I cannot believe how the insurance companies are RAPING me.  I have good credit (FICO Score of 710), have a full time job, and have NEVER made a claim.  I have 2 points for speeding 5 over last year, and the wife has none.  No tickets ever.  She recently had an accident, but  she's going to fight the ticket, and it's not on her record until after court is done if she loses.   What the hell am I doing wrong.   I'm 27 years old, she's 24.

I called Progressive, and asked what the deal was with the Pacifica, and they said "we don't like insuring $50K cars.     It's a damn station wagon with leather  >:(   They also said my credit score influences my rates.  I have good credit though... ?

Anyone have an insurance hook up, or sell insurance on the BBS?  >:(  I'm seriously starting to debate if I should just drop all the coverage to state minimums, and just pay for any incidents that occur out of my pocket.  It might be cheaper in the long run.  I haven't made a single claim every, and neither has the wife.  >:(

Well, American Family has been reasonable for me for my car.

I'm getting killed on insurance being 19, and not having had car insurance for a year yet. (Motorcycle insurance didnt count.  >:()

I pay 115/MO for LIABILITY ONLY with medium coverage of 100/300/50 and a $1000 car.

Progressive quoted me WAY higher.

Also being in Michigan isnt helping much. Their No Fault laws really mucked up your guys rates. A guy I know over bt Gingerman said tehy jacked his rates up higher than they were when he lived in Cali.

Ya know, over the last 5 years of being an internet mailing list & forum junkie, every time insurance is mentioned, not ONE person says how cheap they have it with Progressive...

State farm seems reasonable, Allstate can be okay.  I personally have USAA and LOVE it.  A year for me, full coverage 300/500k coverage 100 deductables is like 1 month to you...

Pick up the phone and SHOP AROUND!  No one on the board will be able to tell you for sure what companies will give you the best rates, only suggestions as to which companies work best for their situation.

I haved shopped around.  Currently, Progressive is still the cheapest I've found.  I spent a good 2 hours on the phone calling everyone when I picked up the Pacifica last week, and Progressive still came out the cheapest  ???

Buy a used Honda Accord and you will get a better rate. If you can afford a 50K vehicle, part of that is the insurance, and the maintenance, and the gas...

Kind of like b1tching about the high cost of racing. Duh!!! You make your choices. Live with them. If you don't want to pay that much, find a cheaper option. There are people who would be happy to drive anything with 4 wheels that goes just so they could get to work to AFFORD paying insurance.

I'd like to know what your weekly lunch money budget is. It  could probably feed a modest family of 4 for a week.

Someone pass Dan the cheese to go with his whine...

Not to mention the fact that if he paid 50K for a Pacifica, he took it up the a$$.

Even at full MSRP, a completely loaded Pacifica runs about 42K.

Maybe only people with credit scores over 700  ::) get a real screwing like that.

I believe that the "chick" at progressive was using an example.  For a fully loaded Pacific with a window sticker of $39K, I paid $33K with my supplier discount, and also the rebates on the car......

The car itself is the problem I think.  If I bought a $45K Ford diesel dually truck, insurance would still be cheaper.   Based on the quote I got off the internet, the truck I'm referring to would be $883.12 every 6.  So... it's the car?  The truck would cost more....  :-/

This will not turn into....  Let's see how many times we can point out the flaws in Dan's post.  Next subject please.
