Yes, I know it's only August, but I've been thinking about the next calendar for awhile now. I'm actually getting very excited. I want this one to be bigger and better than ever. I'm going to have this one professionally printed so we're talking full-bleed racing action - photos, edge-to-edge. Professionally bound, just like you would expect to get from a calendar shop.
If anyone has a suggestion, please let me know. Little things that I plan on adding are a small previous and next month dates in an empty day in the calendar portion. I'd like to have track names, rider names and possibly sponsor info for the main photos. I hope to change the design a bit but still get over 200 photos in. If I decide on the printer I'm looking at now, it looks like the calendar will be even bigger too, 9x12"
So, if you have a favorite photo I've taken of you and you would like to be in the calendar, e-mail me the photo number and I'll try and get you in. I need these photo numbers by August 20th. (Yeah, that's you big 30! ;D)
If you could, please also let me know how many calendars you might be interested in buying. I want to keep the price the same at $15 but getting the professional printing done is going to be a big commitment. If anyone has a line on a printer, please e-mail me. Also, if you're interested in advertising in the calendar, let me know -- I'll have different packages available.
FYI: Here's a preview of the 2004 calendar if you haven't seen it: http://www.sliderphoto.com/calendar/2004.htm

And how many of us can attest to how much we love Jack's photos...and how we appreciate the time that he gives us. Although we spend a lot of money racing, recognize the fact that Jack is dropping the same amount in his investment in taking pictures of us and being a good all around guy.
;D
Thanks, Jack...

Whew... I thought you were going to say, "...good
round guy." ;D Man, I need to stop worrying about things and start exercising... :)
Count me in again this year Jack. :D You are allowing me to save a piece of history with those calendars. Thanks.

Yep! Put me down for two!
Dawn ;)
Can you use my Grattan pics instead of actual racing ones? ;D
I'll take 2 again this year as well! :D
Jack, please email me at sales@motosliders.com about the available advertising packages.

Sure, track days, races, whatever. The photos don't have to be from this year either.
Nate, I'll e-mail you tomorrow.
Nice calender Shot Stumpy!!!
Jack, you do great work, I will definately buy at least 2 calenders from you. :)
Though I don't know what could be done about it, I had 1 of my calenders tear out at the hanger hole last February when I lightly brushed up against the calender while it was hanging. I ended up buying some of those clear plastic hole reinforcements from a local office supply to put humpty dumpty back together again (I put a reinforcement on both sides of the 1st few months for added strength). I don't know if it would be economical to put a heavier cardboard like cover (similar to the 'Fast Dates' calenders) for added hole tear-out strength? I was originally going to just rotate the later dates up behind the hanger side of the calender for added strength, but that wasn't working too well because the tops of the pages were binding against the others inside of the calender binding. That's my only critique on something that could maybe be improved/changed in the future.
I make a calender each season by hand on graph paper to show the whole year as 1 long running calender. I write the month along the side of the dates, seperate each month by a heavy line, highlight every other month to break up the monotony of a running calender, and use the now seldom used traditional calender which shows Monday as the start of the week and has the weekend at the end of the week like it's supposed to be. To the right of each week I have space that is divided by columns which is used to write on. When I get the schedule for the season I go thru and circle all the applicable dates for race weekends and note next to that week what track it is (BFR), what regions (GP, MW, GL, FUSA), if it's double points (2x) or a Twin Spint (TS) event, and any notes. If the event is going to require me to have time off work for travel days I then underline or cross off those days before and/or after the event on the calender so as to make sure and schedule those extra days off work as the event draws near. Here is somewhat of an example of what I do (I just used randomly placed events as an example, I realize we won't be at BFR in January!).

I don't know if this is something that could be incorporated into each month of your calender or not, but if it was it would probably have to run from the top of the picture page to bottom of the calender page along the side of the calender. With all the other months shaded the current month could be white to make it stand out. If it wasn't something that you would think could be incorporated then I would definately like to see the before and after months added as you mentioned.
If you were interested in doing something like I showed as a seperate single page calender I would definately be interested in buying a few of those also. I make mine on a regular size sheet of paper so it fits in my 3 ring binder easily. One of these that was a little larger would be great for hanging up in your trailer, garage, or wherever? If you wanted to do this send me an e-mail and I could describe what I was thinking a little better. :)
Thanks Mike!!! Yeah, the binding and the thickness of the pages were always a problem. It was a matter of printing a small number at a time. I got a few samples from a printer today and they look great. They're professional full-color calendars printed and bound like a magazine. Very cool.
Your format was what I originally had envisioned -- Weekends being at the end! :) But the feedback I got was that it was difficult to understand or figure out.
You have a great idea though. I was thinking the other night about making a poster, kind of a collage of a bunch of pictures - the year in review. It would be cool to add the calendar in the format you suggested.
Hey Jack... I finally won my first race this year! Can I have a full page of myself? ;D
QuoteHey Jack... I finally won my first race this year! Can I have a full page of myself? ;D
Congrats!!! Sorry I couldn't make it to Gingerman. I hope to be there in October.
I think I should auction off the main pages! :) Actually, that's not a bad idea. Too bad I want them done for the Wegman weekend, mind is spinning....
OK, here's what I'll do. I'll start an e-bay auction today. Bidding will start at $100. The winner will get their picture(s) on a full page in the calendar along with their name and sponsor info. They will also get a 20x30" poster of the picture(s) as well. All the proceeds from the auction will go to their choice of either the Wegman Benefit Fund or the Air Fence Fund. How's that sound?
Sounds cool. post a link in a separate topic and have Dawn sticky it so everyone can find it! ;D
This could make some muneeeee....
Jack - YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!! :D ;D :D ;D
Count me in for 4.
