Title: XT Laptimer Mounting on GSXR????
Post by: wave3racing on July 31, 2004, 07:21:52 PM
Where are you mounting the IR receiver with the 20" cable on your GSXR? I want to mount on the left side.  The XT website shows one mounted on the ram air tube, but it is not flat surface so I am a little leary of mounting there. Suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!!!

Dan, I can't speak to mounting locations on the gixxer as I own a cbr, but one suggestion I can give is to make sure that the receiver is movable from the left to the right side.  You can never be sure which side the transmitter will be on, and if you use your own, you can never be sure which side you'll be able to put it.

Good point Larry! I think I'm okay for switching to either side since I plan to mount the display unit on the dash (over the speedo).

Also, the fuse box is located on the right ram air tube and will provide a flat spot to velcro on.

I used to mount my Mychron reciever on the fuse box for the right side and on the ram air tube for the left side.

This year I got an XT and it won't mount on the fuse box because the brake lever will hit it when the steering is turned.  (for my GSX-R, anyway)  I ended up mounting it on the back of the ram air duct by near where it enters the frame.  The duct is a little flatter there.  My throttle cables can still hit it when the steering is turned all the way to the right, but it seems to work OK.

A friend of mine mounted his receiver on top of the tank as fas forward as possible.  This provided a nice flat spot to mount the receiver and allowed just one mounting spot because you can point it both directions from the same spot.  However, I chose not to mount mine their as I have smashed the crap out of two tanks.

PS - I mounted the other part on the dash just like you are talking about with velcro.  I mounted it so that it covered up the first thousand RPM on the left so that it allowed me to still see them temp on the right.

Yeah I zip tied the receiver to the fuse box for a track day this past weekend and it worked well on the track.  However I almost dropped the bike trying to turn around in the paddock  :o I can now validate the clearance issue with the brake lever!

The back part of the ram air tube is another possibility.  I'll have to check that spot too.

I got another suggestion to carve out a hard foam block (found a craft store) to fit the shape of the ram air tube. You then have a flat surface for mounting. Simple but pretty ingenious  ;)

Do you have the long or short cord?

I have the long cord and I run it under my tank so it sits on my tail plastics. ( 02 gsxr 600)

the guys that have the short cord do the same thing all the parts are on the tail.

I have mine mounted under the front nose faring on both my '01 supersport and '02 superbike. Has worked out perfectly all season! ;)
