I've got a WiFi network set up at home. Everything runs on the wireless network. Internet, printer, Video, Audio, ect. About 2 minutes ago, my printer starts going nuts, and starts printing out like a 40 page document. So, I'm like ??? About 10 minutes later, my neighbor from 4 houses away, knocks on my door and asks if I have his document ??? :o I hand it too him, come to find out, he just got a new laptop with WiFi, and saw my network as available, and jumped on my network. :o Uhm.. how do I make the change so that don't happen again ???
I'm using an Apple Airport. ???
Should be some encryption key you can enter at the hub and on the laptop to only allow devices that use that encryption key to work.
Disable the SSID broadcast and enable WEP keys in 128bit (if your router can). CHange your SSID from 'default' (assuming you left it the same). Then inform your neighbor that what he did is illegal and he can spend time in jail for it (even if it isnt, it will scare teh hell out of him).
Depending on wireless router, you can set it up so only the computers with MAC addresses you specify can access your network. Aldo you can disable DHCP and assign static IP's to each of your computers and printer. Some can also lower the signal from the antenae also (my dlink can) so you can set it up to only reach so far.
Your neighbor has alot of gaull to even do that. BTW how far away is he from your router. Its possible he has an amplified WiFi antennae snagging signals.
BTW I wouldnt had even handed the printouts to him. I would had just slammed the door in his face.
He's a good half a block away. I don't do computers, so I don't know what the hell. I looked in my system configuration, and "security disabled" shows up. Then, if I enable it, I can't even connect, cause I don't know the password. It's an Apple AirPort Extreme ??? I do know that the signal stregnth is pretty good though, cause I can take my 12" powerbook and go out in the neighbors garage and still have a full signal. I actually walked down 3 houses with my laptop, and still had 3/4 signal. How do I find out the basestations password ???
The only thing I'm wondering is how long the neighbor has been using my connection >:( I have a full T1 at home that work pays for, but I wonder if I'd notice the extra load from his computer. ??? Now, I unplugged the airport and I'm on CAT5 until I figure out what the hell the password is.
Smart to disconnect it for now.
Should be a reset button somewhere on the airport to put it back to its original configuration. Most of the ones I've seen have a default password. If you never set yours, he probably guessed it.

Check the 7th Fletzer valve. To change it out, you'll need some gauze pads, a few ball bearings, a case of 30wt motor oil and some Prestone anti-freeze. That should take care of the problem! ;D
For such a smarty pants pants you sure are lack on the security end.
He11 someone could be spoofing your email address all accross the web by now.
Read up on war driving and then get that router properly configured. :P
oh...that's right...Apples are easy. ;D
Get rid of the wireless - period.

Yeap. Or enable encryption and MAC address filtering...but it can still be hacked. But most hackers will move on the next non-secure network.
Uh, this is another example of Dan's Bravo Sierra at work. Is everybody really this gullible? ::)
