I'll be there, with a few others. If anyone needs any help or anything, give a shout out. We've been there tons of times. Hotel reccomendation is the Holiday Inn in South Haven. It's approx. 4 miles from the track. Right next to it is a Walmart, and all kinds of resturants. Holiday Inn also gives a racers discount.
Is that the Holiday Inn on Phoenix Road?
Yes sir. They have all the amenities, and even free WiFi internet thruout the hotel. Nice place. If I remember correctly, room with 2 beds was $59.00 plus tax with the race track discount.
I called the Holiday Inn and they're booked up. Try the Comfort Suites...they also offer a racer discount.

Booked :o All last year we stayed there without a reservation ??? Huh.. must be something else going on in South Haven at that time.
QuoteBooked :o All last year we stayed there without a reservation ??? Huh.. must be something else going on in South Haven at that time.
Most hotels keep between 5% - 20% of their rooms available for 'walk-ins', it is very rare for a hotel to 100% book all their rooms. So when making reservations they will usually only allow 80% - 95% of the rooms to be reserved ahead of time.
Paul James- If you want to split hotel costs shoot me an e-mail or call me. I believe I know where there are some rooms.
H-man.... you coming to this round?
Whatever you do, do NOT stay at the "Quality" inn in S. Haven. That place (if it's still open) redefines the meaning of the word hell-hole.
Imagine sleeping in the mens room at BHF... Now make it worse... A little worse yet, and you've got the Quality Inn...
The only thing that came remotely close was the motel 6 near Gateway...
There maybe a big fishing tournament going on there. When we were there last year, I thought I remember seeing all of these boats in the harbor and lots of people in the downtown S. Haven area.
I'll be there... tucked away in a corner and camping at the track!
Do they allow camping at Gingerman Kim?
QuoteThere maybe a big fishing tournament going on there. When we were there last year, I thought I remember seeing all of these boats in the harbor and lots of people in the downtown S. Haven area.
Or the blueberry festival they had 2 years ago on the same weekend as the CCS races!
Good pie though... ;)
I don't know about all the stuff going on, but there are always a bunch of hot women at the ice cream place ;D :P
QuoteDo they allow camping at Gingerman Kim?
As far as I know, they do!
Mmmmmmmmmm.... blueberries!!! :D
YEs, they allow camping but charge for it (some small nominal fee like $10). But get there BEFORE 11:00pm, and remember that if you're coming from IL/WI or points West, that the track is in EDT...
Me-Jesse, Kevin, & Jim will b showing up so that should b very interesting riding that track on a gsxr 1000
Hey Jesse,
So you decided to come and ride the 1000! Cool! I'll be there with Tommy Mason, so we can hang out for a while. It was good to see you at BHF. I am trying to talk Mark into coming. We'll see what happens.
The H-man will be there! :o ;D
Just to be sure you called the right place, It's actually a Holiday Inn Express that's on Phoenix Rd a few miles west of the track.

I don't know the dates of last year's race, but South Haven, in addition to being a favorite w/e getaway for many from the Chicagoland area, has a Venetian Festival too. That could have been what you saw down by the harbor.
Semi sad news for ya Grasshopper. The Blueberry Festival is the 2nd w/e of August :'( But there are a lot of farms (blueberries, blackberries, apricots, apples, broccoli ::), etc) for you to stop by and pick ;)

Sweet. I'll bring you beer.
We'll be camping at the track. Grey trailer with "Black Ops Racing" on the sides. Red & black F2 w/ #42 (yellow plates).

Another place to absolutely avoid is the EconoLodge (formerly Budget Lodge) at M-140 Hwy in South Haven.:P
You may as well be in field conditions as pay to stay there. :o
H.
Is Tom Mason sure to be at the track? If so, let me know so I can send a set of leathers to him with someone who's going that weekend.

thanks Edgar.
Anyone from around Milwaukee want to get Tom's Leathers to him? (It'll will save him shipping fees)
I will!
Can I bring you mine (for the velcro patches?)

WORD!
To make things worse, I was there with a date who I had accompany me to the track :o ::)
I may be a bit...uh... how should I say it... parsimonious at times, but damn, what she must have thought.
Sweet...
New word!
parsimonious
\Par`si*mo"ni*ous\, a. [Cf. F. parcimonieux. See Parsimony.] Exhibiting parsimony; sparing in expenditure of money; frugal to excess; penurious; niggardly; stingy. -- Par`si*mo\"ni*ous*ly, adv. -- Par`si*mo\"ni*ous*ness, n.
:-[ ;) ;D
Since this is an LP rider weekend, is there still Friday practice?
IIRC, we can practice Friday and jump into the LP day on Saturday for a small fee??
Edgar, will you and Tom be there Friday?
Hi Don,
We probably won't get there til Friday evening. I don't think we are leaving Minneapolis until somewhere around noon and it's like a 9-10 hour drive for us.
According to their schedule of events, there will be practice on Friday. Check out:
http://www.gingermanraceway.com/event2004.html
Word on the street is that there is a group of guys renting the track on Thurs. for practice too. I'll see if I can find out who.

Thanks, I forgot to check that website.
I guess I'll get some laps on the R6 since the SV's tires are kinda sketchy. I think I'll try slicks on the SV this time since I don't run supersport anymore.
See you there.
QuoteWord on the street is that there is a group of guys renting the track on Thurs. for practice too. I'll see if I can find out who.
I wouldn't bother paying for it since there probably won't be anyone there Friday. As I recall, we had the place to ourselves last year. Open practice, ride all you want. I was done in by 11:00.
Then Saturday, I think you just pay $25 or so to ride around some more. Could be an expensive weekend for tires!
Hey Edgar,
How about a one on one lesson on this Gingerman track we are going to. Our MAM track walk seemed to help. Hope I'm not too lost. I'm going back to the Doc about my Elbow. I wore through my suit at BHF and ground down my elbow and chipped the bone :-/
Getting infected I think...Big bag of something hanging from it...We'll see you there Friday :)(hopefully with both arms)
Stumpy
Hey Stumpy and Don,
Big change of plans. Me and Tommy will be leaving Thursday, so we should be there by Thursday evening/Friday morning at the latest, so if you need Michelin's...
Yeah, a track walk sounds good to me. I hope I remember my way around even though I have been there a few times before. I hope your elbow is OK by then. If not, we can have K3 suck all the puss out. He is good about that.
;D
Ok, the Kawa won't be ready by this weekend but the "back-up" bike my Triumph Speed Four is undergoing a transformation into race bike for this weekend. Yeah, this s/b fun. I'll see you guys Saturday morning. I just demo'd the new Rocket III today and I wish I had 147 lb ft of Torque in my Triumph!

Edgar,
That's probably a good idea. You'll like the Thursday traffic a lot better than Friday afternoon.
Assuming my leathers arrive Thursday, I'll be up there Friday. That's all up to UPS.
Sorry to hear about the elbow Stumpy. You sure it's not a rug burn? :o ;D

Stumpy,
Did that happen when you went down in Turn 1 at Blackhawk in the money race? I was working that corner on Sunday and it seemed like you were back on your feet and trying to pick up the bike pretty quickly. Saw you throwing your arm around but thought it was just that you were PO'd about going down.
Hope you make it back quickly!
Rick

Yes, it's from that fall. It was gouged pretty good. He went to the med shed after the festivities and they cleaned it out. Then he went to the Dr Monday at home and they cleaned more gravel out and treated it for infection. He didn't need stiches but he may need to have the chips floating around taken care of--contrary to his belief.
I was at that corner, too, and I think he was flailing about because he was mad. *I* was flailing about because I was mad! ;D
The Joe Rocket leather has been officially retired. It was a good sport--but it didn't go down too much so maybe that helped. One more time and Stumpy's butt would have been on display.
Heather
On a Gingerman related note, is there electric and is there any thing funny I need to know about the showers (i.e. Which one will shock me? Do I need quarters?)?
Heather
If I remember the last time we were there they wanted an ungodly amount for the electrical hookup so we ran our generator.
Showers are free and non shock you. (Unisex like MAM).
Dawn
QuoteI was at that corner, too, and I think he was flailing about because he was mad. *I* was flailing about because I was mad! ;D
OH NO!! :o
Guess your house is like my house - 'Ain't nobody happy when Momma ain't happy!'
On the showers at Gingermann.... I think they made some improvements to the restrooms since I was there last October - don't know if that includes the showers. As I remember from last year the 'quality' of the showers was somewhere between MAM and Blackhawk. Maybe closer to the MAM level. And I'm not sure if there was a charge for using them. One 'charge' you won't have to worry about is the 'Blackhawk Wakeup Stinger!' ;D
Hopefully, someone else has been there this season for a track day and can fill in the gaps!
Rick
G-Man had some of the best bathrooms of any track in the MW. Improvements?!? Wow... The Irwins need to follow suit.....
Showers are unisex, private & FREE
Bathrooms have running water, real urinals & aren't clogged.
BHF is like the Abu Ghriab(sp?) of club racing... but hey, if I had my choice between great surface & track or great facilities, I'd go with the track...
Thanks, guys. I just want to make sure I know what I'm in for ;).
Although by traveling with Stumpy and Johnson, I never know what I'm in for...or where I'll end up if I don't pay attention to road signs!
Heather
Gingerman is a really hard track 2 figure out, best 2 follow somebody that knows the track 4 a bunch of laps. My 1st time there I hated the track so much I wanted 2 go home.......its now my favorite track, we'll b there friday nite. BTW showers there are great.
You mean you are going to use the showers in the rig?
Then can we all follow you around on Saturday morning Jessie?? Mark
Wish I could be there .. went there two years ago for the first time and thought the track was great. The city of South Haven is pretty cool too ..
lol idk care if u follow me, just as long as no 1 passes me!!!! haha rite, the 1000 will b a handfull there thats 4 sure, and no i wasn't only talking about the showers in the rig...
Just watched the weather.... bring rain tires, for both Sat. and Sun.
90% chance of rain on Sat.
70% chance of rain on Sun.
Tomorow night it's supposed to rain in IL, so that means it'll be in South Haven by morning. >:(
Now I'm debating on going :( I don't have spare wheels for rains for the bikes I planned on bringing :'(

I just looked this up on weather .com , it sure doesn't look that bad to me
weather.com isn't right around here for some reason. South Haven's on the water, and gets weather from Chicago. Look at Chicago's weather. I ain't kiddin'. Everytime they show a 30% chance of rain for Grattan and Gingerman, it always ends up raining that day. Weatherman's never right. >:(
Dan, don't be a wussy! >:( Just show up anyway. The weather may just blow by and miss us.
But if it is wet conditions, I may not ride either. But I'll be there.
Oh I'll be there, but if the rain starts falling, I'll be in the trailer. Dan don't do rain. Not worth wadding up a $20K bike for the chance to win a $20.00 trophy ;)

Yep it might rain , and yes weathermen aren't always right. Thats why they have rain tires and people at the track to mount them on wheels for you. You don't even have to have extra wheels. If anything maybe you can come help me out. Jim

The only set of rains I have are on GSXR rims. I'm bringing a Duc. I"ll come help out though. If nobody needs help, I'll cornerwork or something. More or less, if it gets to the point where I need rains, I'm parking the bike. I"m not gonna wad up a $20K bike for a chance to win a $20.00 trophy
I'm going to bed. We're leaving early for the track tomorrow. I'll see you guys there. :D
I can't sleep spent all night getting everything prepped on the bike sapping tires, helping someone with their clutch cable replacement, and loading everything now I'm WOUND! Oh well, at least I'll sleep good tomorrow.
lbk, what's "sapping tires"?
I think he meant swapping tires... I knew Dave couldnt spell! ;)
H, I'm pretty sure he's saying that he's going to place mines in his tires. Or sweep for them. Either way, be careful out there this weekend, sounds like the CCS crew is really hardcore when it comes to this competition thing.
;D
Rain, rain, rain. I'm an hour south of Gingerman and it's raining. Rain before 7 stops before 11 an' all that.
Still looks good for this afternoon, Sat and Sun. Weatherman said since this rain arrived earlier than they thought it will leave sooner too.
Well, I'm up so I might as well finish packing and meander up there. :)
Oooo.... rain ...... Gingerman.......
One of Paul's favorite tracks in the rain.
I remember last year Paul taking two overall wins of the three races last year with Mr. Cook chasing him (although 22 seconds behind) last year.
Man, I wish I was there with you guys!
This sucks, still paying for Paul's motor, due this month is homeowner's insurance, car insurance, taxes, and now due to a new law in the state of WI, I have to pay to have a professional septic inspector come and check our septic system. ::) (and then I get to pay a fee to the county to cover the costs of administering this program >:()
August's BFR isn't looking too good right now. :'(

You guys better bribg rain tires as of 11:00 am Fri.
:(
I'd also bring some sand bags or something to hold down your EZ-Up's cause it's gonna get nasty. >:(
I couldn't help laughing out loud when Buell_391 pointed out lbk meant swapping his tires. Guess at that time of morning, I couldn't figure it out either.
03R6-Rider, you are TOO funny man. ;D We've got to get together.8)
You must be connected to the military or like military history to know that old term for the "engineers".
I'll keep an eye out this w/e. Bouncing betties or IEDs in turn 11 could be a bit#h ;)

QuoteThe only thing that's gonna be in turn 11 is a swimming pool in that "bump" on the inside >:(
Not.
I just got back from the track. The rain was gone by noon, the track dried out quickly and there were only about a dozen bikes. Open track and you could ride to your heart's desire!
I parked the SV and got some good seat time on the axe-murderin' R6 before the old knees told me to take a rest.
Larry Denning and J. Gill were there along with Dave Grybas, Brian Hall, Edgar Dorn and Tom (so we had tires). There were a few more whose names I can't recall and there were even a couple of those counter culture two smokes on the track. :-*
Stumpy pulled in to set up and I saw #31 (Purk?)'s bus and Maroon trailer on I-94 motoring up there when I was driving home.
I love days like this. It's relaxing and there are literally times when you have the entire track to yourself. (okay, so you do have to deal with the humility of being on track with Denning). I can't ride more that 1/2 to 3/4 of a day solid anyway so I got much more than my $60 worth (not including the tire bill.)
Time to go sit in a hot tub. :)

H, glad to hear your first race weekend went basically ok although you had an small "off" at T6. ;)
Are you going to STT Gingerman event during 8/21-8/22?
I've been to all of STT's Track Fests. You can count on it later this month at Gingerman. I really love that track. Only thing more would be some evevation changes.

I may have to start another poll..... see how many people think Dan exists only in his own mind!!!!
And didn't he promise to meet someone to FINALLY deliver some tires?
Dan, 'ol buddy, after this one you may have to find a new board. Think I'll look up the address for the local LA chapter - Liars Annonymous!
Edgar... nice meeting you! Thanks big time on the help with the tires - and thank Tom for me too! ;D
Made my ride home much, much better. Although I did wait things out at Mitch's shop on Monday till afternoon when the big green, yellow and red blob on the radar screen moved through the path of my ride home.
K3 .... if you happen to read this - good talking to you Sunday night. I know it's killing you to not be at the track this season as much as you'd like. Hopefully, things will work out for you to race one of last two Blackhawk dates.
For anyone else I didn't get a chance to put a face to a name, I was the guy working Pit Out. Hopefully, I can catch up with more of you at the next two Blackhawk dates. They had an opening come up for a Tech/Grid position and I told them I'd help out.
