Title: SCCA Rally?
Post by: Nate R on July 11, 2004, 10:29:48 AM
Has anyone done any SCCA Club Rally events?

I'm thinking I might do an event next year in Michigan or Minnesota in the Production class.

Just looking to see if anyone has an idea of what the safety car prep requirements are, as a rule book is 18.50. I want to just find out if it's even feasible for me. I'd rather not spend $20 and find out I don't wanna even try.

I know I'll suck, but I've been doing 55 on sandy fire roads in the summer a couple times, and did the same thing on similar fire roads with a few inches of snow on them this past winter. I found it a lot of fun, so I'm thinking it would be a blast to do a full rally....... Besides, it would look hilarious to see a stock 92 escort doing some offroading  :D

I did SCCA solo racing alot before I started Motorcycle racing. I was very close to building a rally car. The race up here is great!! We go every year. I think the most important things you must have in the car are a fuel cell and a roll cage I think 5 point, and harnesses. A couple of my buddies have been building a WRX for the spec class.

Well, I'm looking at the Club level Rallys in the production class. I'm hoping i dont need the roll cage. But, I'll find out. If so, maybe it will be worth it to get like an 85 celica or something.

I thought about doing the Solos, but I think the rally would be a LOT more fun to me if I could swing it.

Nate, send an e mail to this girl.  She's done the SCCA pro rally thing.  In the subject line, put Friend of Chris Onwiler has rally questions, so she won't drop you for a spammer.  She can take a while to answer sometimes, but she's a corner worker, car road racer, and rally girl.  She'll set you straight.
