Title: Can Lance pull 6?
Post by: castle228 on July 11, 2004, 10:12:52 AM
Just want to see what people's thoughts are. I have been a huge Lance fan for years and he was an inspiration to me to change my life. So I bought a bike and rode across the country. This guy battled and beat the ever-livin-**** outta caner and on the doorstep of a 6th win.

No other man in the history of the Tour has accomplished this feat.

GO LANCE!

BUt looks at the way technology in bicycles jumped in the last 5yrs. Carbon fibre hubs, 8 spoke rims, brake lever shifter combos, wind tunnel designed frames/handlebar setups. Alot differeent than my Miyata 312 Comp I used to race in the mid 80's.

Ok.... here's an interesting thought.

Which do you think is more dangerous:
Riding a bicycle with virtually no protective gear other than an ultra-lightweight "helmet" and a lightweight pair of half gloves or riding a motorcycle and wearing pro quality leathers, helmet, boots and gloves?

As far as street riding:
are you in more danger on a bicycle of someone running up your back or riding a motorcycle and have someone make a turn in front of you?

And in a race environment where is there more danger:
Making a mountain descent on a bicycle at 60 mph
or at race speed on a motorcycle in a tight race?

Just curious if others view this the same as I do.  Personally, I would consider it almost a draw.

DUnno. Its a 'interesting' feeling being in the peloton with 30-60 other bikes basically bar to bar.:D

Only real incedent I had with a car was on a back road on a training ride some kids in a firebird decided to try to run me into the ditch. I could see them laughing when I looked back at them. Apparently they never noticed the sheriff's car behind them. Next tie they came up side of me I smacked their windshield with my tire pump (steel zefal one no less;D). He pulled in front and stopped the car sideways to block me. Well the deputy blocked them and they both got hauled in. Deputy told him to shut his f-ing mouth when he said I attacked his car first. GOt to love stupid kids.

I've personally been known to crack a tire pump over the head of a dog or two that decided to chase me down some country roads.

I also grew to acquire a hatred for Red Winged Blackbirds.  Seemed like whenever they had babies in the nest they decided to defend their 'territory' by making repeated dive bomb attacks at my head.  I was always afraid that in concentrating on trying to dodge them I'd end up swing out into the line of traffic and get hit.

I wanna see him do it.

It's a traditionally European ruled sport.

So, for Lance, a guy with a heart from, and as big as, Texas and nuts that...well, try burnin' those things with chemo...

He keeps going.

What's with Tour winners from the US...  LeMond got shot with a shot gun one winter before he won the tour again, right?

Yeah Lemond did. But even back then I cheered for Phil Andersen. ;D

Never had any car incidents....although, this one time, at band camp......;D

Seriously, never had anyone try to run me in the ditch but while doing a cross-country ride with 200 other riders, an 80 year "young" gentleman took out 3 girls with one of those extended side view mirros. He was pulling a rather wide trailer....obviusly the girls never saw it coming. All 3 went to the hospital...broken collarbones, broken arms & lots of roadrash. Saw another girl get her front tire stuck in a railroad crossing and tossed her over the handlebars....looked kinda like a nasty high-side, now that I think about it.

I have been spat at, once. He got the finger!  >:(

Stumpy has taken up road biking since a new sponsor (The Sports Rack of Marquette) provided him with a Trek road bike to train on.  He loves it. Between his mountain biking and road biking he's put on almost 200 miles since last Saturday.

Now his big concern is where you buy a Repsol cycling jersey.

I HATE those birds. That's when I wished I had brought a tennis racket with me. They may be able to chase a crow or hawk, but  just try that when I have ammo  ;D

I've done 60 mph down local hills in spandex, a cheesy helmet, and an unzipped jersey - I would say I feel safer on the motorbike doing 160.

Halt worked well on birds as well as dogs too.:D:D:D

BUMP!!  ;D

Lance is in the Maillot Jaune (Yellow jersey)...his closest competitor is 1:22 down, with Jan Ullrich down close to 7 minutes. This is the biggest gap Lance has had over Ullrich in the past, and Jan has always placed second to The Man.

Watch out world....history is in the making!!  :o :o

GO LANCE!

Dogs were easy, just turn towards them and the back off. I learned quickly after realizing I couldn't just outrun them.

After today's Individual Time Trial to L'Alpe d'Huez, Lance is still up top. He finished 1st today which pushed his gap to 3'48" over Ivan Basso and a whopping 7'55" over Jan Ulrich.

GO LANCE!  ;D

Not even close to a draw.  motorcycles are way more dangerous, one need only look at the list of people permanently maimed (or killed) racing cycles versus racing bicycles.

Is there a question on your life insurance application that asks do you race bicycles like there is for motorcycle racing?  Ummm, no.

Another update after today's stage.....

Once again, Lance takes 1st place in today's stage which pushes his lead over Ivan Basso to 4'09" and 8'08" over his 4th placed rival, Jan Ullrich.

I'm telling you folks.......his 6th victory is within his grasp. This man is un-freaking-stoppable.

It is incredible.

Good guy, good team.

And no one seems to be able to play Lance's game.  I'd say unless there is some kind of unforseen accident or problem, it looks like it's certainly there for his taking!

Once again.....Lance took first place in the individual time trial this morning. He had the fastest time for the day and almost caught Ivan Basso who was released 3 minutes before. Was within 200 yards of catching Basso at the finish line.

This morning's stage win for Lance SEAL'S his 6th Tour de France vicotry. I have been a Lance fan since 1998 and I am speechless. This is an historic event in sports history.

Lance is my idol and hero. He is the man. His is unstoppable. He is the greatest cyclist of all time.

GO LANCE!  :D :D :D
