Title: Race of Champions?
Post by: digitalRoost on July 07, 2004, 10:13:49 AM
so I thought it was going to be at Homestead this year, but the schedule on the CCS site says Daytona. Can someone clear this up?

you dont need one, anyone with a CCS license can sign up. They do grid by regional standing though.

they grid by regional standings in the class as of 3rd week of sept (usually around there). So they grid all the first place, then all the second place, and so on. If you miss the pre-entry deadline you will be grided by order of entry at the END of all pre-entry riders, regardless of your standing. Signing up early does not mean anything as long as you dont miss the deadline. Rather, if you want a good position, find a couple of double point rounds and go race. Then watch your standings. If you are top10 in region in your class, you generally can get a first wave start.

Unless I am mistaken top 10 are the only ones who are gridded by position of ranking in their region. Those who are not in the top 10 are gridded by order of pre-entries as they are recieved by CCS, then after those racers are those who post-enter at the track in order of entry.

Also the order in which all the top 10 regional people is determined on the grid is actually by order of pre-entry. For example the 1st person to pre-enter who is 1st place in their regions points for that particular class is gridded on pole for the ROC, the last 1st place person to pre-enter is gridded last of the 1st place racers (in the event of all the regional 1st place people showing up this would probably be in the 2nd row, last position).

Mike it is all riders with any points get gridded by order of their ranking vs other regions; all the way back 80th 100th place it does not matter if you pre enter it is by your standing so if your are in last place in your region you will be in front of someone without points even if they signed up the first day of ROC regisration and you signed up on last day.

POLE for ROC is the defending national champion if they preentered.

Thanks for the correction Eric, I could have swore that it use to be like I stated in the 90's. I had forgotten about the defending champion having pole position. Does an Amateur who went Expert this year still get any kind of priority in gridding at the ROC if they won that class last year as an Amateur? Just curious. :)

I think you mis-understood what I was trying to say. If you are the 3rd place racer in a region for a class, and you pre-enter before another 3rd place racer from another region you will be gridded before that person at the ROC. Depending on which grid position the 3rd place racers start gridding at, the difference between the 1st and last 3rd place regional racers could be 3 rows. Let's say the last 2nd place regional racer on the grid is on the 3rd row in the 'C' position. The 1st racer of the 3rd place regional racers would then be gridded on the 3rd row, position 'D'. If there were 6 racers at the ROC that were in 3rd place in their region then the last 3rd place racer would be gridded on row 5, position 'A'. This is where early pre-entry for the ROC can actually pay-off. Hope this clears up what I was trying to say. :)

i hope you all have a computer programme to do gridding other wise, thats gonna be rediculously hard to figure out
