Subj:      2003 Suggestions

I believe the following items would greatly enhance my racing experience with CCS.

1.  The purchase and use of a low-power FM Transmitter at all events.  At a cost of around $500, this will allow everyone regardless of where they set up their pits, the ability to hear all race announcements via an FM radio.

2.  The addition of an unrestricted "ultra-amateur" class.  This class would be for persons who are new to racing and are significantly slower than the average amateur.  This class should not be mandatory to new amateur riders, but highly encouraged for those who have never raced before or are intimidated by racing in the "normal" classes.

Do not restrict this class by CC, or modifications.  Let it be open to anyone who feels they belong.  Run 1 race per weekend.

My reasoning for this suggestion is that there are some extremely slow amateurs (lapped twice during a sprint race) who can be intimidated by faster riders, and can also be a hazard to those who are passing them.

3.  Electronic scoring similar to the FUSA system where data can be received back in the pits through the use of a $59 Radio Shack receiver and TV.  I understand the cost of this suggestion, but believe it would cut down on the head-count required during the average race (less manual scoring personnel needed).  It would also reduce the number of scoring protests.

Thank you for your time, I appreciate your consideration in these suggestions.

1)  You can accomplish much of the same thing by using a scanner to pick up the race officials "walkie talkies"...are they still called that lol  Not disagreeing with the FM idea, just a possible alternative if this has been an issue for you.

2) Regarding the "ultra-amateur", there are plenty of track days and racing schools where people can get up to speed.  The rule should be, if you are lapped twice during a sprint race, you do not race any more until you pass the school again.  Exceptions could be made for being lapped twice due to mechanical problems that were fixed or off track excursions where the rider was able to complete the race.

3)  Electronic scoring would be awesome, and I believe they are looking into that.

BTW, Jeff, are you racing AM again next year ???

im on with you jeff !!! sending yours to ccs as mine....
i think the scanner thing is a good idea, but thats another purchase for us, where im not against that totaly, but i think that it's more ccs' responsibility to get the info to us than for us to scramble to gain the info. i know we work hand in hand with ccs, but this ones seems easy enough, plus your batteries run down, and i for one, usualy have other things to be concerned with than to chase down whats going on with the intercom, just put it on the fm dial, .02....
i also believe that some of the "fresh out-of-school" riders will feel safer, more confident and less intimidated on the sunday after school if there was a class that they could be out of harms way and not jeopardize anyone elses safety.  some are fast and can ride with the average group, but some just need more laps (for us and them) .02...
the school should try to influence the students which race to enter before they get in harms way twice a sprint....

But do they announce 'calls' over the radio?  I thought that was only over the PA system.  I know they discuss crashes, etc, but didn't know about 1st-3rd call...

Excellent suggestion!  I agree wholeheartedly.

Nope...  I turned down EX this year because I only raced a few weekends last year but still exceeded 500pts. This year I had +500 pts by the second weekend.

Next year I run with the 'big boys'.  Just looking forward to being able to run AMA races as well.
