Title: decibel restrictions?
Post by: 251am on June 15, 2004, 12:18:59 PM
Are there noise restrictions based on decibel metering? Could not find reference in R&Rs. TIA

Don't think so. You running a jet engine? ;) They might have a problem with that. ;D

There was a new addition to the 2004 rulebook for noise:

1.12 EXHAUST NOISE LIMITS - All machines must be equipped with a muffling device that produces no more than 105db
when measured at a point 50 feet from the track surface during on track activity.
1.12.1 The 105db limit may be lower at specific events to meet certain facility regulations. Tracks with noise limits
lower than 105db will have the limit posted on the event schedule and event regulations.
1.12.2 Machines that fail to meet the noise requirement for the event will be barred from participation until brought
into compliance by the competitor. There will be no financial relief in the event that the machine cannot be brought
into compliance.

Luckily I have never seen this enforced, because I don't know that either my wife's MZ or my CR500 would pass.

At BFR the decibel reading is to be measured at the silo.

However, the silo is no longer there.....

Paul's SV is about 94 decibels at the tower.

No, no jet engines yet, just a Honda we're looking at that sounds like a big block Chevy. Dang thing sets off car alarms on the street!? But, I guess if you asked Team Wings' competitors, they might say there are jet engines involved. ;) ;D Thanks for the input everyone.

After that Fizzer 400 lost his end cap at BHF, that definately broke the 105db barrier.

I have seen it enforced a few times at VIR and at Summit point.  They check the levels of the bikes as you come past the start finish line at track level.  They usually let the riders know at the Riders meeting.
