Title: Just finished first ever race
Post by: thegoshow2002 on May 31, 2004, 09:50:11 AM
I just had completed my first ever race ;D

It was with CCS at firebird east,  firstly I must express my gratitude to the entire staff at CCS and the cornerworkers for making the weekend highly enjoyable.  I went into this weekend not knowing what to expect and i was a bag of nerves.  The staff and fellow racers made me feel welcome and put my nerves at eases.
I would also like to thank John Jewitt who taught the liscensing clinic.  He was more than happy to answer any question that I had no matter how dumb it may have been.

Due to the high heat and it being my first race I only entered HWT Superbike and Supersport.  My goal was to make it through the race and not get spooked when the leaders came past,  I was over the moon when I came in 7th in SBK and 6th in S.S.

The emotions that I experienced that weekend was beyond anything that I have experienced before.  I am now converted and I will be searching for every last penny so that I can make the next event.

Now, if only I can just find a way to catch the leaders ;D

Congrats, goshow! It was a little warm this weekend, wasn't it Good job on the 7th place in HWSB. I was in that race, but fried my clutch on the start. :'( It seemed like the starter to forever to drop the green in that race >:( .

I'd like to send my props to the CCS crew and cornerworkers as well. Sittin' out in that AZ sun can take it out of you. Things went real well. Thanks CCS.

My only comment was that I think they could have thrown a red flag in the GTO race when Matt went down in T10 and his bike was still on the track. Other then that... good job guys.

You will probably find out who your real freinds are now, jealousy and/or intimidation by those who aren't involved in our sport can cause some really weird results. I know people who do nothing but constantly tell me that this is too dangerous and that I should stop while I'm still alive. But I think the best response to that is that when your racing your truely living! To explain that to someone that doesn't race (or isn't involved in our sport) is almost pointless, because you have to experience it to understand.

     Welcome to the addiction! :)

Well said... GSXR Mike.... well said. In fact, when my wife tells people about the racing, they ask her how she can let me do this because it's so dangerous. She tells them - "One, he's an adult and two, I'd rather see him riding on the track then on the street, because it's safer then riding on the street." My wife rocks.

Unless you do it... people just don't understand it.

I am lucky enough to have a family that understands that riding/racing on the track is far safer than riding on the street.  My family encouraged me to head to the track because I was getting far to many tickets for stupid sh$t on the street.  They were more than happy when I lost all interest in riding on the street.
Being a student at the motorcycle mechanics institute, I am not exactly rolling around in money.  In my previous post I thanked the CCS staff and John Jewitt, but I forgot to thank the most important people.  Just in case they are reading I would like to thank my parents for supporting me and helping me live my dreams.

Thanks guys  ;D

Congrats on your first weekend at the races Goshow. It is great to see new riders at the track!!!!!!

As far as the bike laying in turn 10, I thought it was removed fairly quick, so there was no need to throw a red flag??? Just my opinion... :)

Congrats goshow!  You really did do well for your first weekend!  Hope to see you out there more often and thanks fromthe CCS staff for your kind words.  As far as redflags, they are only used when a dangerous situation occurs.  Turn 10 is a very (painfully so) turn and with a nice waving yellow, and all the riders doing a good job of adhering to the rules (which they did all weekend- thanks!) it was a pretty safe call by race control.  See you at the races!
