Title: Transponder Bracket Direction
Post by: xlr8tn on May 20, 2004, 04:13:06 PM
When the bracket is fixed to the tail, which way does the transponder slide into it?  From the back or front?  I'm about to fix it to my bike and want to put it on the right way.

I don't think it really matters.  You have to have it zip tied or secured in another manner anyway.

EXTREME CLOSEUP !!!
sry for the size !!

This way the LED lights on the transponder face the rear.

Actually Steve that is backwards from recommended. You want the blinky lights backward but want the stop also to the back. It does not make much differece but that way seems to be least effected by a boot kick when getting on or off bike.

Don't have to worry about kicking it if you mount it on the bottom of the tail section.

Can't do that if you have carbon fiber though, right? I heard the CF blocks the signal.

Larger pics would be a lot better.  ;D ;D

I mounted mine to the bottom of the tail section with 4 bolts, washers, and locknuts.  I had to drill a small hole in the center of the bracket for my tailsection subframe screw but its really solid.  I had 1 zip tie around it at the top clip and it survived a rather bumpy lowside without budging. I figure if it survived that then its on pretty darn good.

I have the stop facing the tire and slide the transponder in so the lights are up.  Easy to see the blinks that way.

We had to mount mine sideways because there wasn't enough flat surface to do it any other way.  Works fine.  Doesn't seem to faze it any.

As long as there's nothing metal (or CF?) between it and the ground, you should be fine.
