Well it happened to Zempke again! This time it was Duhamel that came up thru all the lap traffic and took it from him in the closing laps. Zempke claimed his now traditional 2nd place and Maldin finished 3rd after deciding to back off on a win and save points (he's now 25 points ahead of 2nd place). None of the major players crashed that I know of and the top 10 was littered with really fast privateers, some of whom were up front at 1 time or another.
I have to admit that I had really been rooting for Zemke, he's been racing hard and looking really good on the track. But today I lost alot of that respect for the guy at the post race interview. This was the 1st words out of Zempkes mouth "Ya, you know lapped riders, their throwing the blue flag for 'em and their supposed to pay attention and get out of the way and their just riding right in the middle of the race line, and I hit I don't know how many guys going thru turn 2 and that corner you can't go to the outside there cause there's no grip....I just got killed in lap riders"! WOW! I'm sure he was the perfect lapper when he was coming up thru the ranks. I thought he was going to start crying right there by the look on his face and his voice. :'(
I think so as to allow clear track for the leaders they should do a qualifying type session for each rider with only them on the track 1 at a time (complete with starting from a dead stop like a regular race), then who ever had the fastest average times wins the event, no lappers to complain about - passing challenges eliminated. Or maybe do the race like normal, then when the leaders start approaching the lappers start black flagging each lapper and make them come in before they become an obstacle to the leaders, that would be really exciting! ;)
Lappers are part of the race too. yes they should slide over but sometimes things happen. Does thi snot contridict the saying " hold your line becasue the faster guy will get around you" Its "his job to pass you safely"
I only watch it to see the fast privateers battle with the fac guys cause they will beat them!!!
When Duhamel passed him for the lead there were no lappers anywhere around :o. I liked Zemke too, before he made his crybaby, lappers caused me to lose speach. These guys complaing about someone else causing them to lose should be spanked by their mommies for being such little brats! Its those brats mistake if they get stuck behind someone slower, not the slower riders. Grow a D$#k you spoiled little boys.
Just like getting taken out, lappers are a part of racing. Both can suck from time to time...

I hear ya on that, I regret ever saying a thing about the guy that took me out last BHF event. I vented off some steam about a racing incident and should have just kept quiet about the whole thing. :-/
As an announcer and fan, I love at our races, to watch the faster guys get through traffic. It is a skill just like anything else. It takes not only cajones but brain power too. I call it a chess match. Putting the lap traffic between yourself and an oppponent at crucial times so you can get away is hard to do, and some riders do it better than others. It is best to watch them get through with no contact, very little aggresion and plenty of smooth, like the Bostroms usually.
Didn't DuHammel have to go through the same lappers? I think Jake was just a little frustrated. 3rd time in a row to get beat in the closing stages. :(
I think Jake was blowing off steam and was looking for something to blame other than himself. That said he will either suck it up and learn to navigate traffic effectively like the other top riders or become a whiner like a few others in the AMA.
I would love to hear these guys say once "I was beaten by a better rider today. I will work to be the best at the next race." instead of blaming the tires, lappers, mechanics, cornerworkers, the stripper last night, or stray wildlife. You got beat. Take it learn from it.
I started rooting for Zempke a little but after this I am just going to root for the privateers and be done with it.
He was upset ... i talked to him before and after the race and he was still in the same mood you saw on tv... however he did take time to talk... and as far as lappers... the never seem to complain when they use lappers for their needs by putting them between them and who is behind them...they love them then
It just shows what experience will do to a rider. The traffic that hurt Zemke helped Duhamel. His vastly greater experience helped him deal with the traffic. Nothing against Zemke, who put in an awesome ride, but he's still got something to learn.

Zemke is allright.. If someone stuck a microphone in front of me after I"d had just lost 3 races to the same guy after being in the lead for most of each race no telling what I'd say thats for sure. Probably be more on the order of F@@@@@@@@@@@@ck
At one time or another I've heard most of the factory ama guys complain about lappers when they were frustrated and didn't catch them the right way.
Then when they have a little time they cool off they see it for what it really is, a part of the game
"D"
I've been impressed with, and rooting for, Jake since he was riding for Bruce Transprotation (a former Honda satellite team) in 2001.
I agree with "D". Jake was probably just really miffed at the time. I believe (hope) that he'll recognize the lappers to be part of the game and that they may have a race of their own that they're embattled in when the leaders run up on 'em.
BTW, the blue flag is new in the AMA this season. I know that MotoGP rule state that the lapped rider(s) are supposed to move off the race line for the faster riders. Is this the case with the new AMA rule? The AMA rule may not require any action at all by the lapper.
I'm tempted to think there isn't any required action in the AMA. Otherwise, I think we'd have heard a ear full from Yates' Daytona incident or Hacking's incident at Sonoma about the lappers being required to move over.

i can tell you that Sean H. did in the superbike race.. he sat up on the back strait and let the leaders pass
