Title: Different Corner Working Organizations
Post by: LauraCole on September 17, 2002, 01:40:39 PM
I am just curious how many different worker organizations are monitoring this board and which race tracks do they work at?

Most interested in finding out all the organizations that work at the tracks the Pros run at.

Great question, Laura. I wondered the same thing. I'm cornerworking for REDUC this weekend at BeaveRun, but I had to find them to volunteer. They're coming from far away, so I wanted to help out. It would be nice to have a    list of who does what, where!

Flag Services has over 800 members nationwide. I also have in the database what local, and national organization they belong to. I will let you in on it when we get together in Daytona.

I can't say which orgs monitor this board, but since you asked the question about which safety crews work at which tracks:

Brainerd - CRA
California Speedway - maybe USARM?
Laguna Seca - USARM (does cars and bikes)
Mid_Ohio - SCCA
Road America - dunno
Road Atlanta - dunno (maybe track run)
Sears Point - USARM
Pikes Peak - MRA
VIR - no local group (US Marshalls South for AMA)

If someone can help me fill in the blanks, that would be great.  It might be nice to have a list of who works the pro races to help grease the wheels of getting workers to each event.

I just found out about this forum, and would love to contribute if I can.  I'm one of the Chiefs of Flagging and Communications for the CRA at Brainerd, and have been with them for over 16 years.

BTW, at Road America the organizational structure is SCCA-based, but we usually have numerous CRA cornerworkers staffing the AMA weekend to provide an experienced motorcycle-oriented staff for the event.  And then, of course, we staff Siebkin's to provide an experienced drinking staff ... ;)

I also just found this site from a some messages left on our forum.  We are always looking for workers.  There is nothing like seeing someone taking Turn 1 at BIR going 160+MPH!!  Hope to see some of you this summer.

We've had numerous discussions on whether to affiliate with CCS, and the general consensus is that most of our grass-roots-level racers wouldn't see enough benefit for the extra cost.  I haven't seen the numbers myself, but I think it's been looked at pretty carefully.

As far as CCS simply being able to run at BIR, that's more of a track management/scheduling question.  I think they've got their year pretty well set, and unless some group drops out, I doubt that there is a free weekend available to give to CCS.  Not sure of the status of SCCA at BIR - there might be a soft spot in the schedule there.  A, the curses of the short northern racing season!  :-/

Laura,
I have worked the AMA events at Daytona, VIR, and RoadAtlanta with the US Marshals group under Egor Emery.  I don't know if they have additional people that are regulars from the tracks, but US Marshals is the organizing body.  My home track is Brainerd with the CRA.
Hi Dan - I'll see you in Daytona
Leo ;D

The Midwest Safety Crew does the CCS and Formula USA races at Road America, Blackhawk Farms, Gingerman and we help out at Mid-America Motorplex and the ama races at Road America. The website will be up soon.

When your website is up, please post its URL here.  I know that a number of CRA workers are planning to work the AMA race at Road America at the beginning of June, and the website might give us a little more info with which to coordinate your workers and ours.

Will do Mike. I hope it will be up in a couple of weeks. Chicago SCCA will most likly have the job of staffing the AMA races but all of us motorcycle workers will be there. See you in June.
How was MAM? 8)

MAM was pretty darned good.  The "local" worker turnout, including paid MAM workers, was better than I expected, and they enjoyed working with and learning from us.  Most stuck around after "paid hours" and finished out the day with us.  Elias Ruiz is the Corner Chief and is real good to work with and eager to help.  The track is in pretty decent shape, and the corner stations are completed, stocked up, and work out pretty well.  And the drag races they ran, even with the bigger, faster cars, didn't seem to be a problem while we ran our races.

When you go there for F-USA or CCS, make sure Aaron knows that you want to have a pit bike race - we had one late on Saturday afternoon and it was hysterical!  Everybody was in leathers and helmets, but you had XR100s up against Zumas up against microbikes, and it was just comical!  ;D
