Post by: magyar on April 26, 2004, 01:49:17 PM
Does anyone know if the stock air cleaner for a 2000 R6 is washable? Thanks!

I would say "no".  IIRC, it's a paper element.  They aren't typically designed to be washed.  Just replaced...

Paper?  Hmm, my stock air cleaner and my Yamaha OEM replacement were both foam, with a furry outside.  I've had success cleaning and re-oiling them, but I drilled out the three rivets on the frame to seperate it and get the element out of the frame.  I then RTV the frame back together, and the airbox lid also holds the frame together when it is in place.

It's foam and washable, but fragile.  It'll come apart easily at the seams.  Replacement cost is about $26.

the manual calls for cleaning, but replacing if it is damaged
