Someone give me to scoop since I could not make it. :'(
I hear there were some fast AM on hondas?
Greg & Peanut how was it running with the EX?
Did Donney make it down there? I saw him at Summit on the 8th testing out his new R6.
I saw Greg and Peanut.
Weather was good for Friday, and it looked like a good turn out.
First, Dave, GREAT to meet you finally. ;D Too bad you couldn't stay longer. the weather worsened but fortunately stayed dry for most of the races. See ya in June.
Dan Burnette (Suzuki) was killin 'em out there in the AM class...I thought he got bumped. ??? There were two really fast other guys in the AM that I noticed, both Hondas.
For me, well, at least it was better than Daytona. :) Peanut is HELLA fast on his new R6. Saturday I wasn't up to his game and couldn't keep up. I settled for 8th in GTU and MWGP. Ran a 35 flat in the GP. Sunday tried to step it up a bit. Almost looped it on the start of MWSB, but made it up in turn one. Cummings and Trey got by and checked out, so ended up with my first podium. Third! whoo hoo. :) MWSS had a great start and led until turn 7 when Cummings got by. followed for a couple laps and it wore me OUT!! slacked off to 36's for 3 laps which let Jason M and #312 (can't remember his name) catch up to me, Jason got by but held off 312 for another 3rd place and 2nd expert podium. Trey and Peanut were out of that race. MWSB ran a 1:34.7, MWSS bested a 1:34.3.
Congrats to nut in his 5th in GTU, that was a Long a$$ race, good job man. Nut also beat me for the weekend on lap time... next time man :P
Donny wasn't there this weekend. ???
now aren't you glad you moved up to expert
Quotenow aren't you glad you moved up to expert
;) hehe, ya Arnie...but as Bart said Marines ain't happy unless they're complaining...or on the podium LOL ;D
Bruce has a little article and photo page up.. http://www.carolinabreeze.com/article.php?n=320

You would have been a big sandbagger; I thought Dan got bumped too. I knew #711 was getting an RR but I thought he got bumped.
Fun weekend! 1st off I'd like to say congrads to Greg, he dropped times and stayed upright! Very consistent.
It wasn't as bad as I thought. After being in the mix on Sat. and being able to work though the pack a bit, my nervousness went away. Got down to 33.8 on Sunday and felt pretty comfortable doing that. I crashed in the ungp race running 4th, but am probably happier I ran all 34's in a crowd than anything else. I think after I cleared those guys I had some more 33's coming but being the dummy I sometime am I tucked the front going into 4. Missed the last race so I am I bit bummed about that but I'll get it fixed for Summit.
There is more time to be had out there, so I'm excited!
I more thing, you can't have bad starts in EX! You can run fast laps but everyone is fast and doesn't like to be passed so getting through is tough. By the time I cut though the leaders were gone. I don't have anything for Nicky, Matt and Trey right now but you have to start with them to truly get a gauge. And like most of last year I can't get off the line to save my life. I thought I had gotten rid of that at Daytona last year but I obviously forgot everything that Ryan taut me. All the starts were bad but the 3 lowest points were: being on the 2nd row in ungp and being next to last going into turn 1, being on pole and being 15thish going into 1, and Greg telling me he had a horrible start in one race but still was able to look over at me on the way by. :-/
Needless to say I'm trying to get info on a drag race school today and if anyone knows about one I'm all ears!
Props out to Peanut and Greg on the RRW site :P

Umm, sorry Mike! Props to you too ;) The lil smoker was moving!!!

I'm glad u guys did well.
Peanut I will get one of my buddies to come out to summit in may to meet you. Sean was the state champ for the local 75/80 drag strip in MD for like two or three years.
Hey hey hey....let's watch those SV suck 50 remarks....eh? >:(
Mike you woulda pulled down first place on Sunday morning if you coulda kept off the grass ;D
You're gonna get me motivated again if you ain't careful.
congrads mike, i see a championship coming! i still don't understand the 2 stroke maintance thing, but you can ride the hell out of it that's for sure!
smoke that would be great. i'm not just giving lip service here, i need help so that would be appreciated.
Peanut does not need help learing to launch his bike. He needs someone else to do it for him.

LOL Maybe I should just give him a little push on the way by from now on... :P It would have been really convenient as I started right behind him every race.
j/k nut ;)
All I can do is take it and shake my head in shame..... :-[

Hey Morph/hehateme
If you find Redriders number and call him before I do thell him to come to the track the May 1 weekend.
Hey Peanut and Greg, awesome job guys! Congrats!
- Stu
Good job guys. ;) I still can't believe how fast Greg and Peanut keep getting. I got lucky and got a 3rd in Ex. Heavyweight supersport right before it started raining. Nicky pulled in during the race when it started getting a little damp and handed me my first top 3 finish. I was struggling a little with the stock suspension until I put on a set of pirellis and got my head on staight. Got to spend some more money it looks like. :'(
Awesome job guys, that brings a smile to my face. (It give me hope too!)
Greg, good job on a holeshot, I knew I could count on you. Peanut, the next time I see you we'll talk about starts. ;D
As long as my bodywork shows up I'll see some of you at Summit. :o
#312 is Tim Rinaldi ..,
Peanut., i take it you will be at Summit 5-1 ?? look us up we will be there also., you should have plenty of time to play with your starts .....lol........
you guys did awesome out there.... looked great !@
I don't think I was one of the 'fast hondas' you guys are talking about but I did get a 4th in the AM GTO, 3rd in AM Un GP & 2nd in AM USS..in the rain on dots! (only 4 ams gridded!) ;D another weekend with wood!
To fast for me in Un GP
VIR was fantastic!! :D
The weather held Friday and Saturday, and it felt good to get out and race after five years off. I was on a Honda 600RR and eeked out a 10th in AM GTU. In the GTO I was doing great until the red flag came out and we had a 3 lap dash to the checkers. I decided to break WAY too late into seven and missed the turn completely :-[ Damn, (it's bumpy out there in the grass)! So there I went from fifth to last with two laps to go. I ended up picking off nine bikes in those two laps to finish 19th. Not so bad after 5 years off, new bike, new track?? :-/ I'm looking forward to Summit on the 1st where I hope to meet more of you!!!
Hey Ray-- you out there Bad Monkey?!?
yep, as dave mentioned timmy is 312. in fact, peanut you stopped at our pits and i met ya.
anyhow, after missing friday practice due to our rig breaking down in maryland on thursday night >:( >:(, i didnt have any practice time on the track. my two races on saturday were my only practice. i started to feel good on sunday and grabbed 9th in mwsb and 8th in hwsb getting my times down to the 36's. if i had more time i know 35's would have been there, and maybe even dipping into some high 34's.. oh well, next time i guess. each session out my times were dropping and considering i only have about 70 laps around that track total i still have a pretty good learning curve to break through. hopefully ill be fast enough to mix it up with you guys the next time. good job fellas.
good to meet you guys. tim is a great rider, we had a few battles out there, and he rode solid all weekend. he backs it in to 7 and sometimes 1, man it looked sweet!
i got to tell this story, (i've been telling it every since i got back..lol.).
so tim and i are going back and forth in the gtu on sat. i'm a little quicker around 2-4 and he's a great breaker in 1 and 7 , so we see-sawed for a number of laps. we come up on a guy going down the hill into turn 15-16. he's leading (i tried to slip through in 14 but he shut the door, ;)) so i'm waiting for him to go through on the guy so i can follow and see if i can finally step up and grow some balls on the brakes in 1.
well being the experienced EX rider he is he waited to go through! i was like come-on come-on go!! but he had a plan for me. he waited until we entered 16 and then popped through, standing the guy up in my line in the process! after cussing a bit, i said out loud, "man that was a good move"! i was getting tired and he got so far out that the race was over for me, my fight was gone.
now some of you guys might say, "were you been nut people use lappers all the time", but i haven't seen it for myself. pretty cool. those EX are tricky! lol.
yep, he knows that track pretty well. he has over 1500 laps on that track and he is a talented rider. and as i said before im hoping to pick it up a bit more so i can mix it up with you guys. i had some good battles myself this weekend. in the mwsb race i went into t1 with rider 714 with my head and shoulder pressed against his bike the entire way around. since i was on the outside i got on the gas quicker and after one lap i looked back and he was gone. but until that one turn we were battling pretty good.
Greg....
You need a new avatar.
I wish had something cool to report about myself, but there isn't much... mainly cuz it didn't rain ;D
Good job peanut and greg, make us rookie experts look good.
Good battling with you scott, thanks for the VP money :D
I will see you guys at summit :) I think I will have more to say about there 8)
Scott almost had my ass in the HW SS race, but i held off and got a second, my first expert wood...yeaaaaa...Peanut looked fricken incredible out there
Quote...each session out my times were dropping and considering i only have about 70 laps around that track total i still have a pretty good learning curve to break through.
Well that makes me feel better. I only have about 300 laps there... 3 track days and now 3 race weekends. But really it's quality more than quantity... I learned a lot more and took more effort going from 36's to 34's this time out with the experts, than I did my first time going from 40's to 38's
How many laps you have Peanut? :P

I remember that!
I had to win that race to get the HWSS championship, i had checked out after first lap, and now u see what happened LOL
I was like "holy shite! :o that guy is on a mission!!"
60 was fast as hell too, but I was trying to hang with him.
I remembered trying to outbrake you in 1 on the first lap. Usually I'd win that battle... but you weren't giving an inch! ;D
QuoteHow many laps you have Peanut? :P
good question.
lets see: i went to my 1st trackday there 9 months after buying my 1st bike, that was '00. age 33. :-[
did 9 trackdays in '01.
did 8 trackdays and 2 races in '02.
did 5 trackdays and 3 races last year.
uh, i think tim has me beat with his 1,500 laps! :o
what's funny is after all that time there i still just learned the line up 7! lol.
wait, i just did the math, i have over 1,500 too! hey i guess i'm a slow learner....

thx hehe It looks like crap, I stole one from online :-X...I like yours better. I'll make a better one later when I'm home... ;D
I think I have about 40 laps on VIR now. I got into the 36's! ;D Maybe if I hadn't crashed in practice I could have gotten it into the 34's. ::)
TELL ME I'm not the only one that noticed that bump going into turn one. >:( LOL

How many laps you have Peanut? :P
i had one race weekend there last year where i ran two races and two practice sessions.
then this year i ran 4 races and two dry practice sessions and one wet in which i was just circulating the track at low speed. so i have about 70 laps, maybe a few less. i feel pretty confident that if i got to warm up on friday i would have been at least a second faster. i hadnt ridden since last august since i got sick at the end of last year so i had a few cob webs to dust off. but enough of the what ifs.. ill just have to put the laps down next time there. i may end up doing the event at the end of june but we will see how the funds are doing. but i am definately planning on doing the event at the end of the season. it always gets harder to drop time the faster you go, but i know so many places i can make up time that i didnt have time to do. the weekend was just too short.
tim was doing trackdays there with cali superbike school for years, then he started racing and ended up being an instructor for cali superbike school last year and taught there a couple times on top of racing there. in fact, he may have over 2000 laps on that track. im jealous as hell cause that track is f'n great. i wish it was a little closer cause being couped up for 12 hours driving makes me f'n nuts.
do you guys run at summit? im probably going to make the may 30th weekend. what kind of times are you guys running there?
Smoke Seans AIM is redryder
Dave nice day with you sorry for the attitude
Smoke I need bernies address again to send his money
NUT...good going at VIR are you going to be at JC 24/25 or Road Atlanta Next month with NESBA
Yea, I'll be at Summit both weekends. Last year I got into the 18's a couple of times but ran mainly high 19's to 21's. That won't cut it this year so I hoping for mainly 19's with a number of 18's when we go at the end of the month.
I would think to be up front in EX you need to run 18's with dips into the 17's. At the national it'll be a bit faster.
BTW..I had to do as many trackdays as I could, I learned how to ride a bike in '00. I need to take the crash course.
How come you guys aren't going to summit at the end of the month?
He, I won't be at JC and I'm not sure about RA yet. Right now it looks like the Monday VIRN event next for me.
actually, a bunch of the guys are going to both weekends. i wont be making the first one because ill have my little girl that weekend. being a single parent only leaves me with certain weekends to go racing, and the end of the month just doesnt fit in the schedule. ive been riding bikes most of my life, but this will only be my third year racing. i did one trackday before i started racing and that was up at loudon. have you ever raced up there? its our home track so that is where we mostly race. i ran two weekends at summit last year for a total of 5 races. and i didnt do any friday practices. so i guess i have about the same number of laps around that track as i do at vir. actually a few less laps than vir. my best is a 21.1 and that was with the belts showing through the right side of my tire during my last race there. i was stuck in the high 21's that whole weekend and then i got to talking with some of my teammates and i went out and ran that 21.1 right after that. if my tires werent cooked i could have been a bit faster. the big thing that allowed me to make up time was going into t5. i used to come flying into t4 in 4th and brake like no tomorrow and drop down to 2nd for t5. id usually outbrake guys going into t5 and get good drive out, but then id have to shift right before t6 and i couldnt carry good speed through the carousel because i couldnt get the bike settled. and id lose a lot of ground on guys in that section of turns. so then we were all talking about our gears for each corner and when i said second they said i must be nuts. they all use third. so i ran third in that corner the entire next race. i didnt have as good of squirt coming out of 5, but you dont really need it as you have to get set up for 6 rather quickly. plus i would carry more speed in 5, i could get the bike dead stable before 6 and carry a lot more speed there (except for my wasted tire). anyhow, you probably know all this stuff anyway. i know i add a lot of if this and if that, but that is my positive thinking at work. i know i can run faster and i will. besides i run takeoffs and run them til the cords are showing. if i had to buy new tires all the time id only get about half the racing events in that i do. and id rather have my lap times suffer a second or so and get more tracktime, than sit at home and listen to my friends talk about how good of a weekend it was. 8) so definately look for timmy and the boys that weekend, and ill most likely see you at the end of may. maybe i can catch a tow off you into the 19's. ;D

Thanks for the t5 tip. At test & tune I felt better in that turn but I was still in 2nd.
Why don't you bring the lil one with you? I'm sure your teammates could help out.
You need tires? I have one rear that was used for 3 races last year, and a front and rear that was used in 4 races last year. ( the front and rear are still on my old bike from last year) U can have them if you want them. well after u look at them of course. let me know what weekend to bring them to Summit

Sean-- I talked to red last night
Peanut -- I have some information for u.
SD- I knew there was something I forgot to ask u. Starts ( is it all based on comfort to have one foot down or both down and leaned way forward?
I have prrety good starts but I have a problem getting my legs back up on the pegs to shift whit both feet down and leaned way forward.
the starts are all what you feel comfi with ..
i have drag raced for over 10 years now., and find that i keep my right foot up and on the rear brake., they bring the RPM's up and let the clutch out till i feel it ... then feather the hexxl out of the clutch on the start and carry a small wheelie out to the end of first....
the key is to slipping the clutch ., other wise you either bog the motor or wheelie too hard.... and when either of those happen you are not going forward !!!!
thats cool becasue Sean told me to tell him the same thing
He also said if he or I don't feather the clutch and just ride it to be preparied to change out the clutch.

smoke, i appreciate the offer on the tires bro. i will let you know for sure when im coming down to the next summit event. thanks.
i have been debating on bringing her down with me many times, and i know everyone would help out for sure. im just a little nervous that if i ever got fucked up out on the track she would freak out. i will have to see how the season goes and maybe before the end of the season ill hit up and event with her.
as far as the t5 tip, i got that from davegsxrold929 (he is one of my teammates under the parent team of offthewall racing).
it really made a huge difference. just carry more speed into the turn, hence more out of it. and no trying to settle the bike before t6. you may have different gearing than myself though. im running 16/50 on my gixxer 600. im still not sure if that is optimal for that track as i dont have much time on it, but it worked ok to start with.
Any time.
I pitted next to day my first race weekend at summit. I have not seen him since june of last year.
