Title: The return of Putnam?
Post by: GSXR RACER MIKE on April 05, 2004, 07:31:21 PM
I was re-reading the info in the licensing folder and it reminded me of the statement about the possible return of Putnam Park to CCS in 2005. I definately hope this happens for at least 1 event, if not more for the '05 season! ;D ;D ;D

For those that have been to Putnam, what are your opinions of the place? I personally think it is 1 of the safer tracks in the Midwest, with the pit wall at the exit of the last turn being the only real safety concern I remember. I like the layout of the track and the fact that you can see almost the entire track from the spectator area. Because I haven't raced there since '98 (or was it '99?), what is the condition of the race surface for those that have been there recently? Have they paved any more of the pits than just the 1 main road? Have they added any power plug in points for the competitors? Just curious of the condition of the facility currently. :)

It's late and I'm cranky.  I think Putnam's boring as heck. I don't care that people I respect like it.  I think it's a yawner and I don't care if CCS goes there or not.  Gingerman is much more fun and and Grattan is even better. :P
There ya go. Ask for an opinion and you'll get one.
G'night. :)

I really like putnam, even after hitting the wall.  :o

But no camping sucks, not too fond of tracks that don't allow it.

It's "swoopy"... I'm going out to "play" there this weekend.  Yeah, the lack of camping is a real downwer (one night in a hotel = entry fee for GTO).

Don, Don, Don.,....

PP is a blast, IMHO.  But maybe that's because I just don't like using the brakes that much, and with PP you pretty much don't need the dang anchors, except for the bus stop.  Other than that, it's just twist it on and go, baby.  Gotta love it.  And the surface was in good shape last time I was there (2002).  Matter of fact, were it not for the track day I did there at the end of 02, I might not have been racing in 2003.  That was how fun it was...

I was there this last weekend and it is the same putnam.  Great track the surface is still grippy as all hell.  It might not have elevation canges like Grattan but it is a whole lot smoother.  I would race there before I would Grattan.  IMHO

Putnam easy track with great traction. I always have fun there. Its easy to go fast so it adds confidence. Of course this is coming from a newbie.

I was there yesterday, and it's ok.  Last time I was there was in 1996.  Doesn't seem to be any different.  The layout is ok.  As for brakes...get a faster bike...LOL!
