Title: folding shift lever
Post by: xseal on April 05, 2004, 01:17:22 PM
Is anyone aware of a vendor that sells folding shift levers, like dirt bikes have?  Seems like it would reduce repairs from lowsides, etc., and would be easier than carrying a spare.

All the factory guys seem to have them, but I assume they get them hand made.

That's something I have thought about making.

you'd think there'd be a market. I guess all you can do is buy a dirt bike folding shifter, then weld it to the road bike base.

Let's face it, no one is getting rich making parts like these, but I'm sure some one will buy them.  I think in this case it's more a matter of making lots of different things for customers to choose from, and hope you can break even.

Solid mount pegs usually eliminate most problems with breaking off the shift levers.  Woodcraft has replaceable shift and brake nubs on their levers.

i have folding clutch and front brake levers on my TZ, well at least i have the remnants of the brake lever DOH :) , wouldnt be too hard to make out of a stock lever, just need to cut one, grind it out in a round pattern, drill and put a small ball bearing, then bolt the two pieces together...
