I know this is the wrong section, but I need the answer fast and every one reads this section,
2k2 gsxr600
OK. My bike is done. I took it for a test spin on the road. It was great but The DAM THING WILL NOT SHIFT INTO 3rd gear or higher >:( >:( >:(
the geraing was stock with stock chain.
I do have a 520 chain, and gears that I can put on.
WHAT DO I DO ?????? Help!!!!!!!!!!!!
I ran down by Paul and told him... (he said he would be panicing too!) :o
Couple of questions:
Does first and second (up and down) work OK?
Did you have motor work done?
Dawn :-/
Is this that deal with the bolt backing out of the clutch area?
1st, 2nd and N are fine no issues.. up and down are good
No motor work; all stock

I don't know. I did not look at the clutch yet. all I did in that area was change the case cover. I'm trying to stay calm but its not working.

I don't think that was a problem with the 2002s.
Silly, but is the cluth adjustment OK? GSXRs have cables, right?
I'd put it on a rear stand, not running, and see if I could go through the gears by hand. Move the bike tire a bit, see if you can feel something binding. Rule out an external problem.
a friend had a similar problem with another type of racebike. Problem was only solved when cracking the cases open finding broken gears and some pieces for the offending gear.
Sorry to hear your problem, but I think its gonna require a teardown.

My cable is new, and I when on the stand it did not go through the gears. It went to 2nd and thats it.
clutch problem can cause non-shifting or difficult shifting.
how about the history of the bike? was it working previously?

Picked it up in Dec salvage title with 6K miles cheep. Rode it for a block to load it and take it home. Been working on it all winter to ge tit ready. Finished it and said test time. this was the first chance I got to play. I missed the TMP vir day beacuse I was not done.
If it went down and hit the shifter, it might have bent some shift forks...?
It should shift when it's not running...might rotate the wheel a bit to get things to move around....
Keep me posted, Mel....
Dang, I was gonna do the AOD loctite solution this winter just to be safe. Good thing I have 3 weeks and 3 days 'til opener... How's it lookin Smoke?
All
Thank YOU!!!!!!
Here's the skinny
In a panic state a called the guys from CAD they have a spare engine. I called #201 and he came over and found my problem. When I put the rear sets together I put to much loctite on the bolt and it got inside the pedel arm ring and all over the peg and locked it up. He sanded the peg, inside the pedel ring, and added some grease on it. He also readjusted my shift rod. To test he hand shifted!!!!!!!!!!! ; D ;D I will test myself when I get home from work tomorrow. But I am good to go. I may still pick up the spare engine just in case.
New lesson for me: a lil locktite goes a long way too much will cause other problems
I'm glad you got it work'n
Dawn :)
How much Loctite did you use man? Did you get some kind of a deal on a 55 gallon drum or something ;D
I'm glad your panic was short term.
What were you excited about? Traditionally nobody finds problems like that until they're loading up on friday night. ;D
sorry to scare you, didn't mean to cause a coronary. I thought we were dealing with a general understanding of mechanic work (ie--oil, brakes, locktight applied in dollops rather than in liters. :D
Sweet, glad you got it fixed. When you're in the mood for a good laugh, I'll fill you in on some of the not so successful "work" I have done on my bikes. :o
So did Ryan from CAD make a house call on a Sunday? That is above and beyond the call of duty. Very cool. :)
That cool thing is I can laugh about now as it was a dumb error on my part.
Ryan I did not come up but he did call the house like 5 times. That shop get all my money and support great guys all around. My buddy Danny came over and fixed it.
Me and loctight and Don and the safty wire man this going to be a fun year!!
glad it all worked out fine
nothing worse than getting a new bike and this happens
Ah, good to have some relief a few days before D-Day... ;D
Smoke, I was getting a sick feeling in my stomach
just reading about this. I don't even know you!
Anyway, I feel much better now, and we can all call
you a dumb sh1t for scaring us like that!!! I can't
speak for everyone, but I've been there brotha....
......LOCTITE........ that is funny, I had the same problem, not shifting, and crashed. My problem was
broken gear/bent shift forks. The bike sure does
work better now. Hey, did you loctite the screw in the gear selector dealy bob??? Better do that if you haven't yet. that is a pretty easy job, remember to replace the gasket on the clutch cover and I think that you want to use the Green loctite... somebody
else can correct me if I am wrong, but I think that it is the Green.
Good luck,
Benji.
