Title: Alpinestars SMX suits, info
Post by: spyderchick on March 18, 2004, 07:38:01 AM
Just thought I'd give you some heads up on the new Alpinestars SMX suits. They are fairly well built, and from what I've read, they've tried to do their homework on the safety end. BUT, they are difficult to repair.

The SMX2, with armor on the outside of both the shoulder and the forearm are impossible for me to get into with my equipment. You must have the arms repaired or shoulder patches applied at a shoe repair place.

The model with the armor only on the shoulders I can repair to some extent, but it will be difficult and may be limited, depending on damage. The rest of the suit is no problem and I've had some that I've done alterations on.

The outer armor held up aces in the crashed suit that I'm repairing now. From what I understand it was a high impact crash.

When deciding whether this suit is for you, you must understand that if you really damage (i.e. tear up) the leather or Keprotec in the sleeves, you may have to send the suit back to the manufacturer for repair.
