hey what size numbers do you need on the front of a bike lets say a 2001 r6?
I believe that you have to have 8in on the front and they allow 6in on the back sides.
Actually.. it says 'Approximately 8 inches' :)
Quote...
"
5.3.6 Numbers must be black and approximately 8" high and 1" wide, of standard block lettering with no shading, outlining or serifs. Number must be spaced approximately 1" from each other as well as the edge of the plate or display area. 6" numbers may be used on the rear plates. All numbers on any display must be the same size.
"
Which helps for those of us with the smaller fairings. :)
ok, i wasent sure because i saw some of the newer r6's wht the numbers on one side of the ram air
Here..
5.3.5 Painted displays or separate plates.
A. Front display may be painted only if the front section of the fairing is of adequate size and display is clearly
legible. Otherwise, a 10 by 12 plate must be mounted. The front display area must be unbroken by air
intakes, and only one number display will be allowed.
(1.) If the rider chooses to position the front number display to the side of the air intake, that number display
MUST be on the same side as the scoring station used during each event. (i.e. if you are competing at
Summit Point, the front display must be on riders right. If you are competing at Roebling Road, the front
display must be on riders left.) It is the riders responsibility to have the number display on the correct side
before coming to Tech Inspection.
So by the way.. the rulebook is online, in case you were wondering how I know all this... http://www.formulausa.com/forms/rulebook2004.pdf
thanks a ton, really appericate that !!!
I have also heard that if you have a 1 in your number you need to remove the corner at the top left so it cannot be confused with a 7.
lbk that is true about the the number 1
here my bike passed tech and they didn't pick on it.
"1" has to be non-serif

Ditto, I'm the one behind Dafan in that photo.
hey coolie... didn't know. did you crash or was that another bike like that?
yeah for instance 1-888-FASTLAP sells 7" numbers and those numbers all passed tech in both WERA and CCS/FUSA on 2 different bikes.
as long as they're decently big enough, and legible, they will pass.
hell I've seen plenty of bikes with electrical tape :) including mine when trackside didnt have any number 2's
Tech has let me pass with smaller numbers because i have a 3 digit number !!
Ahhhh- numbers! If I had a dollar for every rider who did not get properly scored because thier number looked like Chinese haiku, I could afford typing lessons.
Here is the dope. #1's have to have no serif. Look at that number above. See the curly coming off the top? That is a serif. Number must be legible, and must meet tech inspectors and scoring officials scrutiny. If you are not a first time racer and know your competition number- ther is NO EXCUSE for not having the proper numbers on hand. Numbers are cheap, most shop have them and yes, invariably someone at the track will have them for sale priced like airport beer. Also, give your local announcer a break. Try to make them legible at a distance and mostly at speed. A electrical tape creation at 1 a.m. may look great at 0 mph from 5 feet- imagine looking from 25 feet at 140mph. Hope this helps!
