I don't think so, it pretty much takes him out of contention for a championship this year.

My $0.02

That is a 100% fair ruling by AMA Pro Racing.

The fine is in line with what a privateer could afford... especially with the anger management class option.

Puts a whole new spin on "you can't win the championship at Daytona, but you sure can lose it."

I think this is an action that does Yate's deeds Justice. Well done, for once.  :D

Imagine! AMA acting like Nascar with the anger management class just like Tony Stewart. I hope he chooses that option cause paying the fine is just gonna pissem off more ;D With the Suzuki fine, I think all seems appropriate.

I suppose that if you think about it as what a privateer can afford, that's a pretty steep fine.  5K would finish me for the season!  Yates makes a bit more.  You have to wonder how the Suzuki fine will be handled.  I still wish Yosh would just fire him.  Think of how many fast privateers there are out there just waiting for a shot like that.  (insert your local hero here)  Think what a message it would send to the prima donna pros if one of their own was tossed for bad behavior and replaced with a rising star.  Actually, Yosh has nothing to lose here.  With the bad finish at Daytona and the suspension their year is pretty mush shot, so they'd be just as well off to try to develop some fresh talent.

I'm glad they're doing SOMETHING.... but I believe they should have done more - or sooner.  This isn't a "first offense" for Yates (shame on the AMA for keeping their head in the sand).

don't forget he's suspended for the ENTIRE Fontana weekend, which is a double header.  So he loses TWO more SB races  PLUS a 600ss race as well

Doesn't Mladin look just like a shiny golden boy now?

His article on superbikeplanet.com was great.

I'm just sad that one of the major players took himself out of it.  It will still be a great year competitively, but I would have liked the Yates factor to be included.  It will be, but more as a spoiler I guess.

I just picture Yates in anger management therapy sitting there, arms crossed, looking out from under his eyebrows at the poor counselor practicing, "When you take me out as I'm lapping you, it makes me feel sad."   ;D

To which his therapist replies, "Now Aaron - remember when we talked about how you have be in control of your emotions, and that you mustn't let anything other people do dictate how you choose to feel?  Now, let's try it again..."   ;D

It's a shame that Fania just didn't kick his ass right there. I have come to find out that a 24" crowbar can adjust an "attitude" quite nicely ;D

Yosh has yet to have it's way with Mr. Yates, but it doesn't look good for Yates-san.

Yoshimura Press Release On Yates
by staff
Wednesday, March 10, 2004
This just in from Yoshimura:

This Years Daytona 200 was a mixture of highs and lows for the Yoshimura Suzuki Team.

Mat Mladin rode a masterful race to take his third win at this classic event. Mat managed the race to perfection, going fast when he needed to, and conserving when it was prudent.

Yoshimura Suzuki rider Aaron Yates was running a strong second place when late in the race; he came upon a slower rider. Regardless of how one views who was at fault in the ensuing collision, what happened afterwards was clearly unacceptable.

At Yoshimura we have a 50-year history of racing. We race hard, but at the end of the day, we always believe in watching out for each other and keeping racing in perspective. As a result of this philosophy, we cannot, and do not condone Aaron Yates actions in any way, shape, or form.

Discussions and meetings will occur in the very near future at American Suzuki, Yoshimura, and the AMA, to determine the full extent of what actions will be appropriate in this case. Needles to say, we at Yoshimura are very disappointed in Mr. Yates behavior.

Don Sakakura

Vice President,

Yoshimura Racing, LLC

Fire the bum.  This is a good time for everyone to write e mails to Yosh saying that they'll never use Yosh products again if Yates isn't dropped.  Did anyone see the article on AOL yesterday about the hockey player getting his neck broken in a fight?  I know we risk our necks on the track, but...

Ditto, Chris. $30,000 in fines so far is not even peanuts.  This is repetitive behavior and Yates should be ashamed of himself.  If for nothing else, then for that stupid little 3 yr. old dance he did before he went back over to butt Fania.  I see brats in the mall with better moves and more class.

It's a shame that this has taken away a lot from the Mladin win.  I thought the media, and the announcers at the track, were dissin' the Yosh Suzukis pretty bad before the race and playing up the hp of those red and black machines.

Based on their pre-race comments, Mladin's command of the race makes him look even stronger than he has been in prior years.

Mladin's win reminds me of a Penske or Donahue move.  Smart people figuring out a way to outfox the competition, and a good pilot to make the strategy work.
But Yates is still an @$$hole!

Anyone have a quicktime video of it? I have it on tape and am going to try making it into an e-mailable quicktime video today. I'll let you know if anyone wants it. It's very pathetic and funny looking the more you watch it. How's it go?-

Suzuki Superbike: $200,000
AMA Fine: $25,000
Looking Foolish: Priceless
