SUZUKI HAS FINED YATES 25,000,I HOPE TONY GETS SOME OF IT TO FIX HIS BIKE
I don't know if $25,000 really mean all that much to Yates... I would sit him out the next round, but they would never do that.
I think yates should buy Tony a new bike....modified....the Yosh crew should prep it...NO QUESTION.
This would at least demonstrate that he understands the ramifications of his actions. Too bad the guy who crashed into me at Daytona isn't gonna pony up for my totalled bike (and leathers, etc.).
I am glad to see that he was at least fined. That little temper tantrum was just poor sportsmanship on his part. If he did that to me, I'd have had to embarrass him on national TV by kicking his butt in front of everyone!

So is AMA dropping the ball? Did Suzuki tell AMA, "oh don't worry about it. We'll handle it."? Will they take the $25,000 from his check $10.00 a week for the next ten years?
That's like little Aaron getting in a fight at school during kick ball, and mom and dad tell the principal, "Don't worry, we'll take away his $5.00 allowance this week. You don't have to punish him with suspension or anything." The only difference here is the principal is dad.

And what's up with the statement by the Suzuki guy that this is the second year his results were interfered with? Did he not overshoot a turn on his own last year? These people are smoked up.

give me 25k out of your salary and tell me it's nothing. What Yates makes as a professional motorcycle racer is irrelevant when talking about what his fine should be. God forbid a privateer pulls a bone head move like this...how's he or she going to come up with 25k? That kind of fine would put most privateers on a permanent vacation from racing. But then again, the fine was issued by American Suzuki and not the AMA. ::)
I don't know if $25k is really just a "drop in the bucket" for him. I'd be surprised to find out if he makes all that much more than $100k/yr on salary, and the guy doesn't do ANY endorsements as far as I can tell (unlike, say, the Haydens, who I'm sure make some fairly tall coin.) What my question is - who is actually going to pay the fine? Yoshimura Suzuki, or Yates himself?
Still, I'd have rather seen a 3-4 race suspension, than a monetary fine.
Yates is paying the fine, since it's Yosh./Suzuki that's levied it.
Interesting note: it seems he's been posting himself (as DaytonaNONFan) over on the WERA board. Either that or somebody is having identity problems :P
I'd bet that Rapp makes at least $80k from Team Vaseline.
Yates has to be pulling in $250k+ from Suzuki. Helmet might be $40, leathers, etc....
Mandate a restrictor plate for the next 5 races for him. Then as he's battling in the back of the pack because he gets pulled on the straghts by everyone he will have plenty of time to associate with the fact that everyone out there is doing the best they can with the equipment and skill they carry.

I would have liked to see something more sever, but they did SOMETHING at least.
At least now Aaron can tell his kids "Well when daddy's naughty he gets punished, too."
That's what I've been wondering all along - how did he explain that to his children?
