Title: Daytona Amateur GTU race, Crash questions?
Post by: Bart #72 on March 05, 2004, 02:21:23 PM
Ok Guys I finally made it out of the hospital and  home to Pennsylvania.

I ended up with a broken femur and a dislocated and fractured shoulder (which makes it very hard with the krutches.)

My question is, does anyone know how I went down?
It was race 4 on friday Amateur GTU.  I was dicin with another guy for the lead, we were going back and fourth and by the 6 lap or so when I was leading, I went down in turn 7 going onto the banking, We were coming up on a lap rider in turn 7 and I remember going in on the inside and passing him, I thought I highsided by myself but after talking to the Doc at the hospital said that another rider was involved that came in at the same time that also broke his femur, (he said he was from the Miami, Fl area?)

Also two other people said that I was hit from behind.  So what I am thinking is the the guy I was dicin with tried to squeeze through with me under the lapped rider and hit me OR, the lapped rider had NO idea I was there and turned in right on top of me but I doubt it because I thought I was through there cleanly.

If anyone has any video tape or saw it in person please let me know.  It sucks being hurt like this and not knowing the real reason why I went down or what caused it!

Congrats to whoever else won that race.

Thanks,  Bart DeFrancesco #127

Bart,
I was in the amateur GTU that day. I'm not absolutely sure about your wreck, but I think there was only one person involved. After the restart it was red flagged and stopped when Victor Chirino crashed out. He wasn't taken to the hospital then, but highsided in the MWSB on Saturday. From the look of the crash, he probably broke his leg - hopped off the race line then, collapsed. He's from Miami - it may've been him.

Ok, broken bones....

Buy this...

http://www.seacoastvitamins.com/EthicalNutrients/bonebuilder5.html

This stuff works on helping your bones mend.  You're doctor will feel stupid.  One of my instructors is a labratory scientist and had me use this when I broke my hand.  It was healed and all tacky in about two weeks.  Others have had great results too.

Isn't expensive, but it does work.

Regardless, say away from caffein, eat some protein and drink milk...

But buy that stuff...  it works.

Yeah Dafan Tell Shay to shoot me an email or give me a call at 610 250 0920.

Well does anyone remember if my bike and I were the only one laying on the ground?

Ditto to what SD said - buy that bone stuff.  It works.

I remember your crash -  I think I was still in 4th at the time (well, I moved up to 3rd after almost running you and your bike over ;))  *I* thought you highsided it... seeing you go down actually made me back off through that turn for the rest of the weekend!  I *do* recall a lapper being in the mix somewhere - but I can't really give you any more details than that... sorry bud.  Glad to hear you're at least home and doing better!

Oh and PS - I feel your pain with the fractured shoulder.  I disintigrated mine at the first round of my 2003 season.  NOT fun.  I now have lots of titanium where my shoulder used to be  :)  Weight reduction.    Funny biological fact I learned - it seems that EVERY piece of your body is somehow connected to your shoulder.   Sneeze - your shoulder hurts.  Stub your pinky toe?  Your shoulder hurts.

Oh, and if you can help it - never NEVER have one of those "falling" or "crashing" dreams just after you doze of... the whole "jumping and bracing yourself" hurts like a son-of-a-*****!

you think everything connects to your shoulder? well I know that everything does connect to your pelvis. I broke mine in May, and the docs didn't event do nothing... "let it heal" I sat aorund for month letting it heal. No rods no plates no titanium. Hurts to go to bathroom, do you sneeze more or go to bathroom more? lol hurts to sit and be laying down... Now it still hurts a little lifting things.

Anyway bart I will tell Shay to get in contact with you after I get a hold of him. I do remember him telling me what happened but I don't want to give you hear say, so I will have him tell you straight.

Glad you are ok.  I hope you find out the details of your crash, and again, glad you walked away.  All the crashes there sure made me nervous.
Get well soon and get what Super Dave said to!

Hi Bart,

I wondered where you went!  I went by your garage and 3-4 times noticed your bike was gone each time (or you weren't there).

Well, I do have my own crash story - read my post that's going up shortly...about 175-178 mph crash 1/2 between 4 and the tri-oval...heavily modified 929 (with Erion ram air tubes) in 6th gear at 11.5 K rpm with tall stock gearing...someone was drafting me and sideswiped me...tore me right off the bike...bike is totalled, leathers totalled...thankfully I basically walked away w/o much injury..!  Thanks to Daytona boots and Dainese leathers!!!

Sorry to hear about your high-side...faaaak....

Quote...bike is totalled, leathers totalled..

Yeah, we saw your bike sitting there.

It was like watching a train wreck.  Not much left there...just some kindeling.

Yeah Bill glad you are OK!  I think I heard about your crash sometime that morning.  I thought you were on your Ducati though.  Good thing you were able to walk away!
I think I am going to try and redeem myself one more time at Daytona in the fall, hopefully these guys won't get to much faster over the seaon while I recover ;D
