Title: Medical bills in case of an accident
Post by: r1owner on December 06, 2001, 06:48:32 PM
Is there any special medical insurance you should buy before racing besides what my employer provides?

I'm not sure to what extent they would cover my medical bills while racing.  I just wanted to ask you guys to see if I need some supplemental insurance.

Thanks.

a lot of insurance companys will not cover race related injurys and may drop you if you tell them you race. A friend broke his collar bone at button willow and when the hospital records showed it was race related the insurance company didn't pay for it and canceled his policy, he was stuck with the whole bill.

Well, so what is one to do?  I mean a bad fracture of the wrist or leg can run up 10's of thousands of dollars in medical bills.

Read your policy carefully. Your auto/moto policy will not cover racing injuries, but your work health insurance plan likely will. Call them and ask to be sure, before you spin your wheels looking for alternatives.
