Title: Race Of Champions Moving to Homestead???
Post by: r6racer on February 09, 2004, 05:08:06 PM
The latest issue of CycleNews reports the 04 October Race of Champions, normally run at Daytona is going to be moved to Homestead this year due to tunnel construction that is going to start after the July NASCAR race.

Is this old news?

Well, I knew there was going to be some construction going on, but I though that it was going to be for granstands between NASCAR 2&3...but this might make sense.

It is news.

Its in the magazine not the website.  Apparently they are going to make tunnels so the semis can enter/exit instead of having to go across the track and exit at the back stretch.

Jeez those Florida guys got some time on that track! They should have moved it to BlawkHawk farms. I could have made "WHERE THE HELL IS BLACKHAWK FARMS" bumper stickers ;D

Check out this months (March) RoadRacing World page 10.  ROC is scheduled at the same time as Biketoberfest by Daytona Beach Chamber of Commerece.  It was going to be the same date as the WERA GNF but WERA change their date.  As per Kevin Elliott.  ROC is October 20-24 according to the article..... 8)

Can it support 80 rider fields at one time?

Isn't it eight hours south of Daytona too?

I thought miami is only aobut 300 miles south? or less? I still wouldn't want to go though. The florida guys will have a bigger advantage :p atleast we all race the same number of times at daytona each year. homestead is a local track

Dafan...
great point... maybe it should be like a Superbowl...
have it a different location every year. but the Homestead boyz would have a tiny advantage until
the midwest men showed up..... ;D

Here's the answer I received from the man...

QuoteAs of this time, the proposed construction at Daytona has not been approved by it's Board of Directors, so we are still on their schedule for October 20-24, 2004.

As you know, unless the Daytona Board approves the construction, it isn't going to happen.
