Hey all, I was just going over the "new" 2004 schedule.
The new Northern region looks like an interesting addition. What's the scoop on Nelson Ledges?
The good news for us is the addition of Grattan at only about 7 hours away! Looks like a fun year is in the works.
In my effort to waste away a Tuesday, I did up a cheat sheet of the MW/GP/GL/N regions schedules combined if anyone wants a copy. It's in excel.
Heather
Thanks for the head up on this!

No, that is Brainerd, in Minnesota. But, Grattan is really fun too. What Brainerd is to fast, Grattan is to roller coasters. :)

Good news for me too since it's only about 2 hrs. away. Only one weekend but it's a start. I suppose we'll see a bunch of WERA folks up there. ;D
ok Nelson Lodges web site sucks! Or is it just me ?
Does anyone have an address for them ?
I dont know yet about Heartland. Its 8 hours from me.
from what I've heard, there are some real problems with that track. But, that's only hearsay.
Gratten is like a wanna-be Barber, in being a paved roller coaster. They run that track normally clockwise, but do run it counter-clockwise too. I have only been there once (clockwise) and it was definately unique to tracks here in the Midwest. They brag about having almost every possible road racing situation in 1 track. Decreasing and increasing radius turns, blind turns, rises and drops, banked/off camber/and flat turns, sweepers and hair pins, slow and fast sections, and most of these situations are in combination with at least one of the others.
The track was a little tricky and had some surface issues when I was there in the late 90's, but it definately keeps you challenged for the most part.

Nelson Ledges is a little "hole-in-the-wall" track compare to what you guys are used to. It wasn't updated in a long time and kind of primitive, so its easy to hate the facilities and (previous) management.
Since new manager (Scott) took it over from John, the has been alot of improvments.
The track itself is bumpy, kind of narrow, but very FAST and fun layout. Not sure how easy to learn. It was my home track and I rode it for 2 years before venturing out to other tracks.
In its "hey day" they used to run 24hr races there, so there is alot of following and old timers have this love/hate thing for the track.
If you listen to WERA crowd, you'll hate it before you even give it a chance, but local Fasttrack ppl love it.
thanks
Hey Nelson is only 5.5 hours from me !! COOOL
Isn't there some new track in IL? Why haven't we heard anything of it?
Nelson's is like ~500mi for me, so I'm thinking 'no'... Then again, I'm whining about MAM and HPT as well, figuring I'm not going to go to them either... Guess there goes my shot at a # plate...
Back on the old schedule, when HPT was not the first MW weekend, I thought I'd be able to make all weekends, but now, I don't think so... We'll see...
For now, it's the short 10 mile jaunt to the ice every weekend. I can deal with that! And the new CRF-450? An absolute dream machine...
Heather can you send it my way too? Thanks!

Are the latest dates on the CCS site? Where did you get the dates from?
TIA

Autobahn. It's more of a country club type thing. Not sure if racing will ever be allowed there but there are some track days scheduled in September. They haven't broken ground yet.
Latest schedule is on the CCS site:

Thanks! Yeah, found it. I added one Grattan to my schedule.
You know, the last time that I was at Grattan (2001?), they were having motocross races there at the same time. I wonder if we should bring two bikes. :)

Depending on the weekend's schedule, you might want to because they still do.
Regarding Nelson Ledges: Assuming no significant improvements have been made in the past 2 years, it is undoubtedly the worst s**t hole excuse for a race track you will find. There are literally weeds and vegetation growth sprouting up through the track in various locations. The cracking, eroding, and pot-holing that is prevalent throughout the track is addressed with red spray paint circling each instance, of which there are many.
Again, it's been a couple of years since I've been there, intentionally I might add, so perhaps there have been improvements. If memory serves, there weren't even running water/shower facilities available.
I will give credit where it's due-- it's a fun and fast layout for anyone willing to throw caution (and their suspension) to the wind.
Enjoy!!

Basically repave of large portion of track, flush toilets, and showers have all been added recently.
Nelsons? You're right. It's a piece of sh*t. Don't come! No, not ever. The mosquitos are as big as robins. (If you stay home I might get wood, [snicker] ;D
